I. Bell holes shall be made as required manually so that there is no bearing <br />surface on the bells and pipes are supported along the barred only. <br /> <br />J. The bottom of the excavations shall be firm, dry, and acceptable to the <br />ENGINEER. <br /> <br />K. Excavate organic soil material from the bottom of the trench and replace with <br />rock bedding, at least 6 inches thick. <br /> <br />3.03 PIPE INTERFERENCES AND ENCASEMENT <br /> <br />A. Abide by the following schedule of criteria concerning interferences with other <br />utilities. <br /> <br />1. In no case shall there be less than 0.3-feet between two pipelines and <br />structures. <br />2. Class I Concrete Encasement: Wherever there is clearance between water <br />mains or water services, then a concrete encasement shall be provided in <br />accordance with the typical detail as shown in the Drawings. <br /> <br />3. Class II Concrete Encasement: Wherever there is more than 0.3-foot, but <br />less than 1.0-foot clearance between two pipe lines, or between pipe lines <br />and structures, then a concrete encasement shall be provided in accordance <br />with the typical detail as shown in the Drawings. <br /> <br />B. The ENGINEER shall have full authority to direct the placement of the various <br />pipes and structures in order to facilitate construction, expedite completion, and <br />to avoid conflicts. <br /> <br />3.04 BACKFILLING <br /> <br />A. Backfilling over pipes shall begin as soon as practical after the pipe has been <br />laid, jointed, and inspected and the trench filled with suitable compacted <br />material to the mid-diameter of the pipe. <br /> <br />B. Backfilling over ducts shall begin not less than three days after placing concrete <br />encasement. <br /> <br />C. Backfilling shall be prosecuted expeditiously as detailed in the Drawings. <br /> <br />D.
