3. In addition, fittings with mechanical joints and push-on joints shall conform to <br />AWWA/ANSI C111/A21.11, except that neoprene gaskets shall be used for <br />the joint. <br /> <br />D. Ductile iron pipe and fittings intended for interior use and for use above grade <br />shall be flanged. <br /> <br />E. Ductile iron pipe for use below grade shall be push-on joint and thrust <br />restrained, where necessary, as listed on the drawing details. <br /> <br />F. Ductile iron pipe for use below grade shall be thrust restrained mechanical joint, <br />where indicated on the drawings or required for pipe crossing right-of-ways by <br />their governing agencies. <br /> <br />G. Ductile iron pipe with threaded flanges shall be manufactured in accordance <br />with AWWA/ANSI C115/A21.15, unless otherwise specified, and with the <br />provisions contained herein for ductile iron pipe except that wall thickness shall <br />not be less than Class 53 unless a higher class is noted. <br /> <br />H. Flanges shall be ANSI Standard Class 125, plain faced and drilled, in <br />accordance with ANSI B16.1. <br /> <br />1. Flanges on ductile iron pipe and fittings shall be ductile iron and shall be <br />provided by the pipe manufacturer. <br /> <br />2. Joint materials for flanged pipe and fittings shall be ANSI sized and <br />approved and shall consist of hot dip galvanized bolts and nuts and 1/8 inch <br />thick full-face neoprene gaskets. <br /> <br />I. Mechanical joint pipe and fittings shall be furnished with high strength cast iron <br />or alloy steel tee head bolts and hex nuts, with composition, dimensions and <br />threading in accordance with AWWA/ANSI C111/A21.11. <br /> <br />1. Segmented glands will not be acceptable. <br /> <br />2. Bolt holes for mechanical joints shall be equally spaced, and shall straddle <br />the vertical centerline. <br /> <br />J. Thrust restrained mechanical joints for ductile iron pipe and fittings shall utilize a <br />restraining follower gland, which when actuated imparts a multiple wedging <br />action against the pipe, increasing its resistance as the pressure increases. <br /> <br />1. Glands shall be manufactured of ductile iron conforming to ASTM A536. <br /> <br />a.
