D. For piping assembled with threaded, solvent cemented, welded or soldered <br />joints, liberal use of unions shall be made. <br /> <br />1. Unions shall be provided close to main pieces of equipment and in branch <br />lines to permit ready dismantling of piping without disturbing main pipelines <br />or adjacent branch lines. <br /> <br />2. A minimum of one union per straight run of pipe between fitting and/or <br />valves with multiple lengths of pipe shall be used. <br /> <br />E. Elbows between 45 and 90 degrees, for scum and sludge lines, shall be long <br />radius type, unless designated otherwise on the Drawings. <br /> <br />F. Changes in directions or elevations shall be made with fittings except for <br />Flexible Process Tubing or as noted in the piping paragraphs. <br /> <br />3.01 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING <br /> <br />A. Material delivered to the site shall be inspected for damage, unloaded and <br />stored with a minimum of handling. <br /> <br />1. Material shall be stored in accordance with the manufacturer’s <br />recommendations. <br /> <br />2. The insides of pipe and fittings shall be kept free from dirt and debris. <br /> <br />3. Gasket and plastic materials shall be kept protected from exposure to direct <br />sunlight over extended periods. <br /> <br />4. Solvents, solvent compounds, lubricants, elastomeric gaskets, and similar <br />material required to install the pipes shall be stored in accordance with the <br />manufacturer’s recommendations and shall be discarded if the storage <br />period exceeds the recommended shelf or pot life. <br /> <br />5. Storage facilities for plastic pipe, fittings, joint material and solvents shall be <br />classified and marked in accordance with NAPA No. 704, with classification <br />as indicated in NAPA Nos. 49 and 325M. <br /> <br />6. Material shall be handled in such a manner as to insure delivery to the <br />trench in a sound, undamaged condition. <br /> <br />7. Pipes shall be carried to the trench, not dragged. <br /> <br />3.02 SHIPPING, HANDLING, AND STORAGE <br /> <br />A.
