C. Sleeve type couplings shall be harnessed except where noted. <br /> <br />1. The harnessing shall be as shown on the drawings or as specified herein. <br /> <br />2. Harnesses for steel pipe shall be in accordance with AWWA Manual M11 for <br />the pipe size and pressure, working or test whichever is greater. <br /> <br />D. Harnesses for ductile iron pipe shall be tie rods spanning between adjacent <br />flanges. <br /> <br />1. Friction clamps shall not be permitted. <br /> <br />2. The size and number of tie rods shall be the same as for steel pipe for the <br />same pressure and pipe size. <br /> <br />E. Where the distance between adjacent flanges is in excess of ten (10) feet or <br />where a harness cannot be used, the pipe supports adjacent to the coupling <br />shall restrain the piping, preventing linear or angular movement resulting in the <br />pipe separating from the coupling or misalignment in the joint. <br /> <br />F. Where expansion joints are used, control units shall be provided. <br /> <br />1. Tie rods and control units shall be installed in accordance with to the <br />manufacturer's recommended procedures. <br /> <br />G. Tie rods and associated hardware shall be type 316 stainless steel. <br /> <br />H. Valves and fittings shall be restrained in an approved manner such that the any <br />developed unbalanced force shall be supported independent of the piping <br />system. <br /> <br />3.16 FLUSHING AND TESTING <br /> <br />A. General <br /> <br />1. Furnish necessary labor and equipment required for the field tests specified <br />below including, but not limited to, air compressor, gauges, conduit caps, <br />temporary pipe, and connections. <br /> <br />2. Provide potable water for flushing and testing purposes. <br /> <br />3. Furnish and install means and apparatus necessary for getting the water into <br />the pipeline and flushing and testing; including pumps, gages, meters, <br />necessary plugs and caps, and temporary blow-off piping required to <br />discharge water.
