BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT AND RELEVANCE TO THIS CONTRACT (Include scope, size, and cost) CGA was retained by the City of Fort Lauderdale to assess the condition of the seawall and dock, inclusive of panels, pilings, decking, utility brackets, pipe penetrations and other appurtenances along a portion of City owned / maintained water frontage. CGA was asked to conduct a limited investigation of the observed condition of the concrete slab decking atop the seawall and pilings, and adjacent uplands on the north side of the seawall including Andrews Avenue Bridge. The adjacent paver and landscaped areas have experienced widespread and significant settlement, most notably in the vicinity of the seawall, indicating soil migration from behind the wall by way of flushing through breaches in or beneath the seawall with routine tidal and vessel wave action(s). Condition assessments on public facilities are a matter of regular maintenance and should be carried out on a routine basis. Due to the advanced age of the facility, a condition assessment of the facility is warranted as a matter of public safety. The project site is a public area located at 305 S. Andrews Ave., Section 10, Township 50, Range 42, in the City of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The subject seawall and marginal concrete dock abut the north side of the New River, fronting the Las Olas Riverwalk development from approximately 150 feet east of the FEC railway to the S. Andrews Avenue Bridge. The total length of seawall and dock is approximately 500 feet. The inspection / investigation was limited to visual observation both above and below the water surface with no geotechnical testing, excavation of tie-back systems, non-destructive or destructive testing of concrete elements. The engineer traversed the length of the property from west to east from the surface and water sides, documenting notable areas with photos and establishing a rough baseline of stationing for reference.
25.FIRMS FROM SECTION C INVOLVED WITH THIS PROJECT
a. Additionally, the affected uplands will require repair and restoration to address settlement and voids issues.
71
