<br />Thomas Pierro is the Director of our Coastal Restoration group and a Senior Coastal Engineer with broad experience in
<br />project management, planning, design and permitting, engineering and modeling, plans and specifications, field
<br />investigation, construction oversight, and feasibility studies of coastal engineering projects. Since 2001, Mr. Pierro
<br />served as Project Engineer on several shore protection, beach nourishment, and marine structure projects. In 2011, the
<br />Florida Shore & Beach Preservation Association awarded Mr. Pierro the Jim Purpura/T.Y. Chiu Award for outstanding
<br />contribution to coastal engineering.

<br />Mr. Pierro provided high level project management for coastal engineering permitting and design services for a
<br />beach nourishment project along the shoreline damaged by Hurricane Matthew. Services provided include
<br />geotechnical testing of native and fill sands, preliminary design, and submittal of an FDEP Coastal Construction
<br />Control Line (CCCL) permit application, with recent permit issuance provided and provides the City with a proactive
<br />mechanism to nourish their shoreline before and after a storm.

<br />Mr. Pierro directed a comprehensive feasibility study for Manatee County in 2007 to evaluate the cost and need for
<br />shore protection in areas outside the federal project area on Anna Maria Island. Based on the recommendations of
<br />the report, the County constructed the Coquina Beach Nourishment Project and a 5‐acre artificial reef in 2011,
<br />designed and permitted by Mr. Pierro. He also designed and managed the installation of geotextile tubes to sand
<br />tighten the Longboat Pass Jetty to improve the performance of the beach nourishment project. He recently
<br />completed a comprehensive modeling study of Longboat Pass resulting in an updated inlet management plan. He
<br />also worked with the County to remove three derelict groins along Cortez Beach and replace them with permeable
<br />adjustable groins. This project was designed using the Delft3D numerical model. Mr. Pierro assisted the USACE in
<br />design and permitting of the 2014 nourishment project, and continues to play a key role in the management of the
<br />County’s island‐wide shore protection program. Mr. Pierro also assisted the County in the design, permitting,
<br />construction assistance of the 2014 Coquina Beach nourishment project.
