the Owner. All pipe and fittings shall be thoroughly cleaned before laying, shall <br /> be kept clean until they are used in the work, and when installed or laid, shall <br /> conform to the lines and grades required. <br /> 3.02 LAYING PIPE AND FITTINGS <br /> A. Pipe and fittings shall be installed in accordance with requirements of the <br /> manufacturer. <br /> B. All pipe shall be sound and clean before laying. When laying is not in progress, <br /> including lunchtime, the open ends of the pipe shall be closed by watertight plugs <br /> or other approved means. <br /> C. As soon as the excavation is completed to the normal grade of the bottom of the <br /> 1 trench, immediately place screen gravel or crushed stone (where applicable) <br /> bedding in the trench, and then the pipe shall be firmly bedded in this material to <br /> conform accurately to the line and grade indicated on the he drawings. Blocking <br /> under the pipe will not be permitted. Bedding shall conform with the detail <br /> drawings. <br /> D. When cutting pipe is required, the cutting shall be done by machine, leaving a <br /> 1 <br /> E. smooth cut as right angles to the axis of the pipe. <br /> Unless otherwise specified, pipe shall be joined in accordance with the <br /> manufacturer's requirements and in a safe and secure manner. Pipe joints shall <br /> be kept to a minimum. Leaks in joints shall be repaired immediately. <br /> 3.03 CLEANING AND FLUSHING <br /> A. The pipe shall be thoroughly cleaned of all foreign matter before installation. It is <br /> the Contractor's responsibility to insure cleanliness of the pipe during installation <br /> and backfilling. At the conclusion of the work, the Contractor shall thoroughly <br /> clean all of the pipe, if necessary, by flushing with water. Debris cleaned from <br /> the lines shall be removed from the lowest outlet. If, after this cleaning, <br /> obstructions remain, they shall be removed. <br /> 3.04 INSPECTION <br /> A. After the pipe is cleaned, the Engineer will examine the pipe for leaks. If <br /> defective pipes or joints are discovered at this time, they shall be repaired by the <br /> Contractor. <br /> i <br /> END OF SECTION <br /> 1 <br /> 1 <br /> 05/08 02613-3 05-4893 <br />
