55CES Consultants ● City of Sunny Isles Beach RFQ No. 18-11-01STANDARD FORM 330 (REV 8/2016) PAGE F -1
Scope of Work
This design-build project for Master Pump Station No. 3
involves the installation of 5,000 lineal feet of 30- and 48-
inch-diameter gravity sanitary sewer interceptors. Upon
completion, these improvements will increase sewer
capacity throughout the commercial and residential
districts of the Brickell area in Downtown Miami. The
target design service life for the upgrades is
approximately 80 years.
Site constraints in this heavily trafficked urban core with
numerous existing underground utilities, prompted the
use of micro-tunneling methods. By and large, gravity
sewer interceptors will be installed using a 48-inch-
diameter micro-tunneling boring machine (MTBM) with
invert depths of 15 to 25 feet below the surface.
Permanent access man-hole structures and ten vertical
shafts will also be built to facilitate the launch and
retrieval of the MTBM.
As the geotechnical consultant to the design-build team,
Langan assisted with the preparation of the technical
proposal during the procurement phase. During the
design phase, Langan provided the subsurface
investigation and geotechnical engineering evaluation
required for designing vertical shafts, man-hole
structures and sewer pipelines. Geotechnical
parameters were also developed to support micro-
tunneling and excavation methods. Langan also
performed an environmental assessment along the
project alignment to identify potential sources of soil and
groundwater contamination. Langan prepared all
permitting plans and documents to perform subsurface
investigations though close coordination with various
state and local stakeholders including the Florida
Department of Transportation, Miami-Dade County and
the City of Miami.
Langan is currently providing construction administration
and support during the construction of the shafts,
excavations and pipeline installation with the MTBM.
F.
