54CES Consultants ● City of Sunny Isles Beach RFQ No. 18-11-01
STANDARD FORM 330 (REV 8/2016) PAGE F-1
The Marina del Mar II Shoreline Stabilization and Marina
Project is on an 8.7-acre parcel that is planned for
redevelopment. A 17-story second tower is planned to the
west of the existing tower, and a new parking garage will
be part of the redevelopment. The waterfront scope
includes both upland and submerged lands parcels. The
multi-phase site redevelopment project includes
demolition of an existing overwater concrete platform
that is integrated with an existing structural pool deck,
replacement of approximately 1,176 lf of existing bulkhead
with outfall penetrations, and installation of riprap
mitigation to compensate for unavoidable marine
biological resource impacts.
Marine hydrographic surveys and marine biological
assessments were completed to support the design and
permitting process. Seagrass impact minimization
measures were implemented, and mitigation for
unavoidable seagrass impacts was negotiated as part of
the environmental permitting process with the U.S. Army
Corps of Engineers and Miami-Dade County DERM. A
second-phase 200-foot bulkhead replacement and marina
redevelopment is in the conceptual design phase. The
bulkhead replacement has been designed with steel sheet
piling in a cantilever configuration. The design was
coordinated with the upland architects to account for the
proposed promenade and for utility connections for the
marina utilities. The stormwater outfalls were coordinated
with the upland civil engineers, and include the required
manatee grates. The construction plans were permitted
through the building department of the City of Sunny Isles
Beach.
Tim Blankenship is the project manager overseeing the
planning, design, and regulatory permitting for the
shoreline stabilization. He is also engineer-of-record for the
project. Christy Brush is the senior environmental manager
overseeing processing of the environmental permits,
including environmental impact/mitigation assessments
and mitigation negotiations.
F.
