@g
Craig A. Smith & Associates, Inc.
Engineers • Surveyors • Subsurface Utility Engineering
3D Subsurface Imaging • Utility Coordination
is to provide design and coordinated installation that will provide the City Sunny Isles with a reliable
power, control and remote monitoring system for the next 20 years. In terms of controls, an Allen
Bradley brick style PLC is recommended to provide control to the station. Westinghouse motor
starters and automatic transfer switch (ATS) will provide the power to the pumps and allow for
automatic generator operation. The primary panel components have reached the end of their useful
and should be replaced. The existing generator appears to be in good condition.
The new electrical system may include a 100 amp, 3 phase 480 volt electrical service assuming
existing operating conditions. Power wiring will be replaced back to the FP&L pad mounted
transformer as required. A new main breaker, ATS and pump control panel will replace the out of
date existing equipment. In order to provide better access to the equipment we would propose to
either provide a new generator or retrofit the existing generator in ballistic rated aluminum enclosure
suitable for 180 MPH sustained winds. The current generator area can then be reconfigured to allow
for better equipment access and air conditioning of the electrical equipment area.
CAS recommends the City utilize state of the art cellular system for communicating from the
stormwater station to the central site. Cell phone based systems eliminate the need for radio towers,
provide reliable service and are easy to maintain. This system will also handle any other remote City
site such as lift stations or other sites. This can be integrated with VT SCADA HMI software. This
platform allows he City to view and operate stations from a central location or from operator cell
phone platforms. See the data sheet in Exhibit D for the recommended SCADA system at the end of
this section.
21045 Commercial Trail, Boca Raton, FL 33486 • Ph: 561-314-4445 • www.craigasmith.com • LB3110
