Craig A. Smith & Associates, Inc.
Engineers • Surveyors • Subsurface Utility Engineering
3D Subsurface Imaging • Utility Coordination
We strive to identify potential issues early in the project so necessary action can be taken to keep the
project on schedule. CAS will continually update the cost of the project as necessary In order to stay
on budget. If an issue develops with the schedule, cost or the budget, CAS will advise the City and
develop a plan for corrective measures with the staff. We consider the City and CAS as one team, all
striving for the same goal of a quality product on schedule and on budget. CAS Technical Reviews will
be conducted throughout the project schedule by the Principal members of our firm as part of our
commitment to quality engineering.
CAS' experienced engineering staff, in-house survey and extensive utility locating capabilities allows
for the development of very accurate and complete basemaps for design of such utility rehabilitation
projects. There is no second guessing as to the location of existing buried utilities (both active and
abandoned), therefore greatly reducing or altogether eliminating change orders. This is the "CAS
ADVANTAGE". Our goal is to have no change orders.
UNDERSTANDING SCOPE OF WORK
The City of Sunny Isles Beach is seeking professional engineering services for the evaluation and
rehabilitation of the existing stormwater pump station located within the Golden Shores community.
"The project is planned to rebuild the entire pump station to ensure its continued use." The
evaluation will include a hydrologic and hydraulic analysis of the drainage area served by the pump
station including the pump station using best available information in the absence to drainage system
as -built data to verify existing drainage levels of service. Professional services will also include
producing as -built drawings of the existing stormwater pump station's wet well and inflow/outflow
devices (pipes & Class V wells) to develop a representative hydraulic evaluation of the station.
Professional services can also include the surveying of the existing drainage system to verify what is
the ground and include measures to account for sea -level rise as necessary.
Additionally, the services also include but are not limited to the design and implementation of a
remote telemetry unit/SCADA system, electrical upgrades, inspection of the pumps and associated
components and recommend upgrades as necessary; test wells for capacity and integrity, backflow,
prevention device testing and bypass outfall pipe replacement with new sluice gate type structure and
street drainage system inspection.
In addition, the City is interested in replacing the existing emergency generator outside the existing
structure with a suitable generator or possibly modify the station by providing a non -confined access
point to the electrical controls and generator. The latter option may not be necessary if the proposed
project is to rebuild the entire station. (See Exhibit B and C for pump station schematic and location
map at the end of this section).
CAS will perform a detailed review of all record drawing/as-built survey data and any other pertinent
documentation of the existing pump station and related facilities, such as pumps, motors, wells,
controls, electrical panel, generator, etc. A hydraulic evaluation of the Golden Shores drainage area
will also be conducted to ensure proper sizing of pumps, motors and related elexisting pump
stationctrical equipment and make sure water quality treatment requirements are met. Based on the
findings CAS will make recommendations for improvements/upgrades to the existing stormwater
pump station. Thereafter, CAS will prepare proper documentation for engineering design, permitting
and construction as required for the completion of the rehabilitation project.
More specifically, with respect to station monitoring and electrical upgrades our approach to this work
21045 Commercial Trail, Boca Raton, FL 33486 • Ph: 561-314-4445 • www.craigasmith.com • L133110
i:]
