The users experience of ascending and crossing over the highway — This is the practical usage that unifies and benefits the residents of the city. 11. The potential "artistic" civic landmark. This project will include the design of a pedestrian bridge and accompanying elevator towers for the pedestrian crossing of Sunny Isles Beach Boulevard - West Bound lanes. It serves to unify the north and south communities that are segmented by the Collins Avenue overpass. ® In its primary role, the bridge provides the opportunity for the public to experience the dynamics of an "elevated crossing" (a common strategy in bridge design) but equally important the Pedestrian Bridge is viewed as a landmark "datum" and therefore it is understood as one of the memorable markers Integrated within the city. We view the users experience in three distinct types, each providing a heighten level of experience: 1. The mechanical ascend (elevator). Heightened by the extensive use of a rear curtain glass wall that allows a vast visual experience of the surrounding city views. ll. The ohvsical ascend (stair). Heightened by the implementation of cantilevers that provide a floating quality Ill. The crossino over (bridge). Inspired by traditional bridge design and wrapped with metal panels that artistically strengthens the visual lines and sense of security. In contrast to most pedestrian bridges, we promote the use of elevator towers, which are highly advantageous in eliminating the extensive walking distances in a ramp system. In addition, we further promote security by the use of glass and protective perforated metal panels that will also allow for air ventilation. Colors, finishes and architectural details will be in accordance to the Gateway Park project.
