Responsible for design services for the replacement of a NRHP eligible bascule bridge over the Miami River located <br />adjacent to a NRHP listed historic district and local historic district. The NEPA process concluded with an EA/FONSI, including a <br />commitment through a MOA with FHWA, FDOT, and SHPO to maintain the existing historic catwalks connecting the bridge to the NRHP <br />Miami River Inn cottages. The new 507-foot bridge included a 325-foot double-leaf bascule span over a widened 150-foot navigation <br />channel. Two new approach spans consist of prestressed concrete beams, providing 18 feet of clearance over North and South River <br />Drives. The new approach retaining walls include a longitudinal walkway for connectivity to the historic catwalks. Responsible for providing structural engineering design of a 386-foot, 3-span bridge. The bridge consisted of <br />splayed plate girders supported on integral concrete post-tensioned straddle caps. Responsible for providing analysis of superstructure leaf and foundation for the preliminary and final design phases <br />of this bascule bridge replacement project. The SWAT process of overlapping the design phase with the PD&E phase required <br />coordination and support of the NEPA process in developing the Type 2 Categorical Exclusion documentation. Serving as Engineer of <br />Record of the project, H&H is addressing the structural and functional deficiencies of the existing bridge, developing vertical and <br />horizontal alignments for bridge replacement alternatives and studying the resulting impacts. The design will incorporate intersection <br />improvements and improve traffic functions at both ends of the approximately 2,960-foot-long (0.56 mile) project corridor.
