OTHER PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS (Publications, Organizations, Training, Awards, etc.)
Daniel Tarantino has over 11 years of experience focusing in architectural design. As an architectural designer, Mr. Tarantino has
performed design and analysis on a multitude of transportation and infrastructural projects. Relevant Projects include the NYCT, New
Fulton Street Transit Center, New York; LIRR, Nostrand Avenue Station Rehabilitation, Brooklyn, NY; LIRR, Rehabilitation of Valley
Stream Station, Valley Stream, NY; RTD, Eagle P3 Project, Colorado; CATS, North Corridor Commuter Rail Terminal Station, North
Carolina; DART, Intermodal Transit Hub, Iowa; DOT, Bus Rapid Transit Design Guidelines, New York; HART, Honolulu High Capacity
Transit Corridor Project, Hawaii.
19. RELEVANT PROJECTS
TITLE AND LOCATION (City/State); BRIEF DESCRIPTION (scope, size, cost, etc.); ROLE
EAST SIDE COASTAL RESILIENCY PROJECT (The Big U)
New York, NY
Senior Architect. Responsible for Hardesty & Hanover’s portion of the major East Side Coastal Resiliency project in Lower Manhattan.
The aim of this project is to fortify and protect infrastructure from future storm surge and rising sea levels, as well as improve
recreational opportunities and accessibility to the park and waterfront. Under this contract, H&H inspected five existing pedestrian
bridges and two entrance ramps to determine their structural viability, and recommended rehabilitation or replacement in conjunction
with the other aspects of the Coastal Resiliency program, including berms and other landscaping improvements. H&H provided
conceptual designs for two new bridges and a bridge rehabilitation to further enhance pedestrian access to and from the waterfront
on the Lower East Side. Bridges will be located in areas which will provide the most benefits to the local communities.
ENGINEERING COMPLETED
current
CONSTRUCTION COMPLETED
n/a
 Check if project performed with current firm
TITLE AND LOCATION (City/State); BRIEF DESCRIPTION (scope, size, cost, etc.); ROLE
RARITAN RIVER DRAWBRIDGE REPLACEMENT
Raritan, NY
Deputy Design Manager for the $425M replacement of the Raritan River Drawbridge on North Jersey Coast Line. Responsible for
design coordination and leading the development for all the project’s architectural components including analyzing material and
aesthetic considerations to be used in the main span, house and approach structures, overseeing development of code and egress
calculations by the architectural team; leading interdisciplinary team coordination meetings to evaluate potential conflicts and clashes
at all levels of design. The project includes a half-mile long structure, with a movable swing span at the navigational channel and more
than 3000 lf of approaches between the Perth Amboy and South Amboy stations. The bridge replacement will be done off-line while
maintaining full rail operations during construction. Funded by FTA Grant under post-Sandy Emergency Relief Program, the intent is to
protect major infrastructure components that may become endangered during extreme climate events. The replacement bridge is
required to have a sufficient flood resilience to remain in operation after a major hurricane. The project has to be implemented within a
very tight timeframe. Since the bridge suffered from frequent vessel collisions due to poor channel geometry in the past, it is the intent
of NJT to implement feasible navigational improvements to the extent possible without delaying the project delivery. The scope of work
includes a feasibility study of various alignments and bridge replacement alternatives. The new bridge is likely to be a vertical lift with
a minimum 110 foot vertical clearance and 300 foot navigational channel. Key issues include obtaining necessary permits and
approvals to meet the timeframe specified in the FTA grant requirements, while minimizing impact on NJ TRANSIT operations, as well as
the adjacent properties and environment.
ENGINEERING COMPLETED
current
CONSTRUCTION COMPLETED
n/a
 Check if project performed with current firm
TITLE AND LOCATION (City/State); BRIEF DESCRIPTION (scope, size, cost, etc.); ROLE
DELANCEY STREET BRIDGE RECONSTRUCTION
New York, NY
Senior Architect. Responsible for providing comprehensive architectural services during the preliminary and final design of the full
replacement of the Delancey Street Pedestrian Bridge. H&H began by performing an in-depth inspection of the existing pedestrian
bridge. Since the existing clear width was less than the desired 12-foot clear distance needed to accommodate a shared use path, it
was determined that new bridge replacement will incorporate a 12-foot clear width and minimum profile slopes to better
accommodate the public. H&H is currently performing final design of the new pedestrian bridge structure which consists of concrete
cellular ramps and a steel tied arch bridge spanning a length of 209 foot over the heavily traversed FDR Drive. Bridge aesthetics was
a large factor in the pedestrian bridge design which was presented to the New York City Public Design Commission. H&H worked
closely with the project architect who had a certain vision for the bridge’s geometry and look. The architect didn’t want any “heaviness”
in the bridge members and developed drawings of how the bracing and bridge profile should look. H&H performed the structural
analysis based upon these architectural concepts and is transforming that design vision into a full set of construction documents and
specifications.
ENGINEERING COMPLETED
2020
CONSTRUCTION COMPLETED
n/a
 Check if project performed with current firm
