Spine Erection
Employing H&H’s innovative approach to beam delivery, the FUBs can be trucked and erected with
only single night road closures to Collins Avenue. The erection of FUB spines is a common and
conventional construction operation. The prestressed FUBs do not require any additional
strengthening to carry the final design loads. Traffic can resume normal patterns once each beam is
braced temporary lateral bracing.

The picture above shows the erection of a 150 foot-long, 175-ton custom arched prestressed beams being
erected after being delivered from Tampa by barge at the H&H-designed Flagler Memorial Bridge in Palm
Beach.

H&H-Designed Flagler Memorial Bridge: Beam Erection

D-21
