BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT AND RELEVANCE TO THIS CONTRACT (Include scope, size, and cost)
NCL's state-of-the-art terminal is located at PortMiami. The "Pearl of Miami" cost approximately $239 million. The design
of the 166,500 -square foot curved structure, which draws its inspiration from a nautilus, features new technology to support
fast and efficient embarkation/disembarkation, expedited security screening and check-in, a dedicated lounge and service
area as well as a six -story parking garage and valet parking area with direct access to the terminal and lounge.
PortMiami issued a work order to Terracon to complete geotechnical engineering and laboratory services for the modern
cruise terminal and parking garage. At the time of our services, the site primarily consisted of paved roadway, parking, and
loading areas. Terracon conducted geotechnical exploration to evaluate the subsurface conditions at the project site. The
advancement of 14 test borings were performed to depths ranging between approximately 10 and 100 feet below ground
surface within the footprint of the new cruise terminal.
Representative samples collected from the test borings were visually reviewed in the laboratory by a geotechnical engineer
to confirm the field classifications. The samples were classified using the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS) in
general accordance with the American Society of Testing and Materials (ASTM) test designation D2487. Terracon provided
geotechnical engineering data relative to the geotechnical site characterization information including subsurface soil/rock
conditions, groundwater conditions, field testing, and laboratory testing. Terracon has also been providing construction
materials engineering, testing, field inspections, and special inspections in a subconsultant capacity as well as construction
engineering inspections for NCL for the new terminal complex.
Firm's Fee: $59,087
(1) FIRM NAME
a. 1rerracon
25.
