BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT AND RELEVANCE TO THIS CONTRACT (Include scope, size, and cost)
The project site is within the Miami Executive Airport (TMB), formerly known as the Kendall-Tamiami Airport owned
and maintained by the Miami-Dade Aviation Department (MDAD), on the northwest corner of the airfield at the
approach ends of Runways 9L and 13.
The scope of work involved the preparation of plans and specifications necessary to modify TMB Taxiways “A” and
“D” wide expansive pavement to a reduced width size to accommodate Airplane Design Group (ADG) III aircraft.
This project is in response to FAA’s identifying this segment of the airfield under the FAA Runway Incursion
Mitigation (RIM) Program. Airfield geometry has been identified as a primary contributing factor for runway incursion
in this case. To address these existing issues, the FAA has initiated a comprehensive multi-year RIM program to
identify, prioritize, and develop strategies to help airport
sponsors mitigate risk at these locations.
PDS was the Prime Consultant on this project to mitigate
the runway incursion potential. The future airport layout
plan includes the reconfiguration of Taxiways “A” and “D”
at the entrance points to Runways 9L and 13 to eliminate
the wide expansive pavement. The proposed
reconfiguration coordinated and agreed to between the Air
Traffic Control (ATC) and MDAD Operations, reduces the
overall width while also decoupling these two taxiways.
This would, however warrant the need to construct a new
connector taxiway and adjacent holding bay but these
features are not part of this project. This work includes the
reduction of taxiway pavement widths, connection to
Runways 9L and 13 and related work.
Premiere Design Solution’s role in the project was:
Topographic Survey
Civil Engineering and Stormwater Management measures
Pavement design, demolition and reconfiguration
SWPPP and SWPP Report
Existing lighting modifications and proposed taxiway and runway lighting design
Construction Phasing Coordination and Staging area determination
General site configuration and modifications
Estimate of Construction Cost
Construction Management and Inspections
62
