Dr. Benedet with a previous firm planned waves and current data collection efforts where two
ADCPs were deployed to collect oceanographic data to calibrate the numerical model, and conducted numerical
modeling of coastal processes (waves, currents, sediment transport, morphology) utilizing Delft3D to evaluate the
impacts on Hurricane Ivan on Panama City Beach and evaluate a proposed maintenance nourishment project.
Numerical Modeler. Dr. Benedet with a previous firm performed numerical modeling of waves, currents, sediment
transport, and beach-inlet morphology utilizing the DELFT3D model to evaluate inlet channel dredging strategies and the
effect of inlet channel re-alignment alternatives on sedimentation rates and erosion of adjacent beaches.
Numerical Modeler. Dr. Benedet with a previous firm led the numerical modeling effort to evaluate potential impacts from
two adjoining beach nourishment projects in the SPBICSS EIS. The modeling ran seven project alternatives to determine
the least environmentally damaging practicable alternative. The model also applied a range of grain sizes to fully
evaluate the potential effects to the nearshore hardbottom resources.
Numerical Modeler. Dr. Benedet while with another firm conducted Boussinesq Wave and Flow Modeling utilizing the
USACE Bouss2D model to evaluate the effects of proposed T-head groins and artificial reefs on recreational activities
such as surfing.
Numerical Modeler. Dr. Benedet with a previous firm led Delft3D numerical modeling activities and coastal processes
analysis development to evaluate the effect of proposed permeable adjustable groin structures to manage an erosional
hotspot on Longboat Key Florida. The project was constructed after the study and it performed very similar to model
prediction.
Wiggins Pass Inlet Study (Naples, FL)
Southern Palm Beach Island Comprehensive Shoreline Stabilization
Project EIS, Town of Palm Beach, FL
Upham T-Head Groins Numerical Modeling (Clearwater, FL)
Longboat Key Islander Permeable Adjustable Groins (Longboat Key, FL)
Principal Scientist 19 1
ongoing upcoming
2006 2008
2016
20182011
20072005
N/A
