Smith, Frank Vilar, Robert D. KeenerScope of Work: CAS prepared an engineering design report to explore the various options available
for providing sewer service to approximately 62 acres comprising of a light industrial/small
commercial area where a number of the properties have little or no access to public streets and
limited right-of-way for the installation of a sanitary sewer system. The work included survey of
approximately 1,400 linear feet of the subject area and utilized GPS equipment of data collection
in both the horizontal and vertical planes creating a basemap of the project area with building
floor, road and parking lot elevations. Based on the findings and data collected CAS prepared a
report outlining design criteria, assumptions, baseline data, project cost estimates and included a
summary of the findings with proposed design alternatives clearly outlined with exhibits. The
Sanitary Sewer Study was completed on time and within budget.
Pro!ect Cost: $44,540
•Sunshine Water Control District West Outfall canal Improvements -Phase I & 1A, Coconut Creek,
Rorlda
Status: Completed 2017
Prime Consultant: CAS
Kev CAS Staff: Gene R. Schriner, Orlando Rubio, Robert D. KeenerScope of Work: The West Outfall Canal is the primary conveyance canal for the Sunshine Water
Control District's west basin serving 3,361-acres. The dredging project improved stormwater
conveyance to Pump Station No. 2 by widening and deepening the existing canal to improve flood
protection to the West Basin. The project entailed the removal of 19,500 cubic yards of material
to the targeted bottom elevation for the entire canal. The channel modifications improved
conveyance and allowed the pump station to perform more efficiently by reducing headloss in the
canal. Phase I of the project included dredging 2,900 linear feet of the overall 10,200 linear feet
West Canal. The project also included public outreach with individual homeowners to remove
encroachments within the canal right-of-way. This project was completed on time and within
budget.
Design Cost: $175,000
Construction Cost: $3,000,000
21045 Commercial Trail, Boca Raton, FL 33486 • Ph: 561-314-4445 • www.craigasmith.com • LB3110
