Conducted a benthic survey of natural resources of a proposed dredge area and surrounding borrow areas to map the extent, and characterize, benthic habitats present including seagrasses and other potential marine resources of concern (e.g. corals) using novel techniques due to high currents and extensive vessel traff ic. Multiple species of seagrass, including the threatened Johnsons’ seagrass (Halophila johnsonii) were identified and mapped. Drafted an Essential Fish Habitat (EFH) Assessment as part of a NEPA-Compliant Environmental Assessment for the project. b. Performed bi-annual seagrass monitoring along ten (10) fixed transects to collect data to detect small- scale, area-specific changes in seagrass cover for comparison to previous annual data sets. Line-intercept data and quadrat data were collected to characterize the seagrass beds. At the request of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and in an effort to clarify environmental specifications for a proposed jetty repair project, conducted a visual survey and collected video data to enumerate hard and soft coral colonies along the north jetty at Lake Worth Inlet. d.
