Sustainability and Innovation I A LEED°-certified
facility requires the involvement and commitment of all
stakeholders (owner, contractor and design team) from
design through construction; the process continues
after construction with the involvement of the building's
maintenance staff and users throughout the life of the
facility. LEED® projects require an integrated design
approach in which trade-offs between systems and
approaches can be analyzed early in the design process.
Osborn Engineering is uniquely qualified to provide this
integrated design service through its multi -disciplinary
team that includes civil, structural, mechanical, electrical
and technology engineers and the full range of technical
and support personnel. Our multi -disciplinary team
identifies trade-offs between Building Envelope/ HVAC /
Lighting/ Daylighting/ Passive Solar and other systems
to help ensure maximum performance within the project
budget. Through this process, the team can identify
attractive solutions to functional needs that would
otherwise not be found.
Osborn has been a leader and pioneer in the field of
Energy and Environmental design and construction. Our
Energy/Facility Systems Group is focused on improving
energy efficiency for all of our clients. Our experience
includes consulting and design services for various
energy conservation projects for many different types of
clients. We have performed over 300 energy audits in 26
different states for various buildings for higher education,
healthcare facilities, government and commercial office
buildings, and public housing authorities. Osborn has
played an integral role in numerous energy conservation
projects from auditing, economic analysis, design,
construction administration, building and system
commissioning, to the implementation of the ENERGY
STAR° Building Program.
Osborn has been involved in optimizing energy performance
since the inception of the ENERGY STAR' Buildings
Program more than 17 years ago. Our experience as a
pioneer in the ENERGY STAR' Buildings Program provided
a foundation that has allowed Osborn to successfully
assist our clients in implementing their Green Building
strategies and projects through the U.S. Green Building
Council's LEED° program. Osborn has assisted or is
currently assisting more than seventy buildings pursuing
LEED° certification. Osborn's staff of highly trained energy
engineering professionals is committed to providing our
clients with functional and practical building solutions
while ensuringthat the facilities are a shining example of
energy efficiency and sustainability.
Energy Simulation and Life Cycle Evaluation I Because
energy efficiency and sustainability are at the core of our
values as a design firm, we are proficient in performing and
evaluating energy simulation models and life cycle cost
analyses. Most, if not all, energy conservation projects are
first cost justified through a proper economic evaluation
process. Osborn performs all of our own energy modeling
for our LEED° design projects and we have been hired to
perform independent energy modeling by other design
consultants for their LEED° projects.
A service provided on a typical Osborn design project
is to perform a thorough independent review of the
design team's energy modeling and any life cycle cost
analysis that they perform to justify MEP designs that
are not pre -approved in the Ohio School Design Manual.
As such, Osborn has experience in evaluating nearly
every conventional HVAC system as well as many non -
conventional systems including geothermal, variable
refrigerant flow, and chilled beam systems for economic
justification.
RFQ 20-07-01 CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL CONSULTING SERVICES SECTION D - PAGE 13
