In addition,
Miller Legg provided construction
observation services. In addition, we
also provided grant assistance to secure
a Florida Recreational Development
Assistant Program (FRDAP) grant for
$200,000. FRDAP is a competitive grant
program that provides financial
assistance to local governments for
development or acquisition of land for
public outdoor recreational purposes.
Award: Award of Merit, American Society of
Landscape Architects, Florida Chapter, 2009

City of Cocoa Beach CRA
Minutemen Causeway - Minutemen
Causeway is the “main street” within the
Cocoa Beach Central Business District,
providing a front door to City Hall and
direct access to the beach. Over the last
30 years, development within the
Minutemen Causeway corridor included
a mix of commercial, residential, and
lodging properties. This development
drastically increased the impervious
conditions of the corridor and
significantly impacted the stormwater
system within the area, causing regular
flooding issues. Miller Legg’s solutions
for the Minutemen Causeway project
was a holistic design approach to
improve the stormwater / drainage
issues, while invigorating the area’s
economy by creating a pedestrian-
oriented beachfront promenade and
streetscapes. The project consisted of
significant landscape beautification and
geometric modifications to the corridor
to promote a pedestrian-friendly
environment and to stimulate economic
development. In conjunction with the
redevelopment, the project included
low-impact stormwater facilities to meet
the Total Maximum Daily Load reduction
requirements, as outlined within the
Indian River Lagoon Basin Management
Action Plan. These stormwater
improvements included pervious paver
sidewalks and parallel parking, bio-swales
with native vegetation, and underground
stormwater infiltration facilities with
nutrient absorption materials. The
entire project was a City pilot program
for Low Impact Design (LID) and Best
Management Practices (BMP) for
stormwater management. Utilizing this
innovative approach, this project was
able to secure significant funding from
the State, including almost $5 million
from the Florida Department of
Environmental Protection.

City of Coconut Creek Sample
Road Streetscape - Miller Legg
prepared the planting and hardscape
design of this four-lane divided roadway
in Broward County. The design
incorporated existing trees and palms
and established a plant and paver palette
theme for future Florida Friendly
landscape in roadways within the City of
Coconut Creek. In addition to landscape,
irrigation and hardscape designs, grant
Brian Shore, RLA
Senior Landscape Architect | Project Manager (60% Availability)
