•
0
e
Architectural, Landscape Architectural,
Engineering and Land Surveying Firms Only (CCNA)
FIFO No. 14 -07 -02
Wilson Community Center, Pool, and Park Complex,
Boynton Beach, FL
The City of Boynton Beach selected the Kimley -Horn team to re- evaluate
their existing master plan in preparation for the expansion of the Wilson
Park Complex and to prepare construction documents for this 5.3 -acre
facility in the heart of Boynton Beach, just south of the C -16 canal. The
complex includes a renovated pool and pool support building, a new
two -story, 14,000- square -foot community center, a tot lot surrounded by
a walking path with three small polygon pavilions, picnic tables, water
fountains, two basketball courts, an open multipurpose play field, and a
relocated retention pond.
Kimley- Horn's first task was to reconfigure the park's master plan based on pending land acquisitions to determine the best way to
use the available space to meet the City's facility needs. The master plan phase services included value engineering the options to
upgrade and re -use the existing pool facilities. The property for the park abuts a future greenway along the C -16 canal. Provisions
were therefore made to provide pedestrian connectivity between the two open spaces.
Upon completion of the master plan, the Kimley -Horn design team and the City
worked in conjunction to prepare the final construction plans for the project. The
® Kimley -Horn staff was directly responsible for site parking, drainage, grading,
® utilities, traffic signage, landscaping, irrigation, permitting, and public involvement.
Permitting and project plan approvals were coordinated with multiple city
departments and other agencies, including the Boynton Beach CRA, the school board
of Palm Beach County, and the South Florida Water Management District.
A
•
e
ID
ID
It
0
Go
Go
This project was let for construction in November of 2006 and Kimley -Horn also
provided ongoing services throughout the construction phase, including shop drawing
reviews, field inspections, change order and pay application reviews. The Center
celebrated its grand opening on February 9, 2008.
Boynton Beach Boulevard Extension and Promenade, Boynton Beach, FL
Kimley -Horn served the City of Boynton Beach CRA on a boardwalk/streetscape project along the Intracoastal Waterway involving
the extension of Boynton Beach Boulevard. This project was part of a redevelopment effort by the CRA to improve the City's
waterfront. The project consisted of two specific elements: the extension of Boynton Beach Boulevard from US 1 to the Intracoastal
Waterway, and the construction of a boardwalk along the Intracoastal Waterway from Boynton Beach Boulevard north for
approximately 4,000 feet. This project acts as the link between the private sector and public sector redevelopment activity that has
already commenced in this area. This project was the winner of the Roy F. Kenzie Award — Best Capital Project /Beautification Award
from the Florida Redevelopment Association.
RM 1447-02
oY2540 M-t Scary Isles B .
