William R. Mohler, III
Environmental Engineering
Mr. Mohler is experienced in environmental document preparation,
ecological monitoring and assessment, compliance monitoring, and
geographic information systems (GIS). His GIS experience includes: digital
map creation, geodatabase creation and utilization, geoprocessing,
georeferencing and editing, digitizing, remote sensing, photo
interpretation ground truthing and utilizing ArcToolbox functions. He has
a comprehensive knowledge of Florida floral and faunal communities
and their interactions. In addition, his training and practical experience
includes lab and field experimentation, biological, water and soil sample
collection and monitoring, taxonomy, plant physiology, wildlife catch and
release, avifaunal surveys, experimental design and implementation, data
management, and statistical and numerical analysis.
He has exceptional field operations skills including preparing and
calibrating field equipment and engineering specialized data collection
field solutions. In addition, he has over 15 years of small boat and airboat
piloting experience, and is a skilled engine mechanic. Mr. Mohler has
excellent navigation skills and has personally piloted watercraft to over 300
tree islands in the Everglades. He has also led field crews into dangerous
terrain and navigated throughout the Everglades system using GPS. He is
skilled in using various types of equipment and software including ESRI Arc
GIS, Trimble, Arc pad, Li -Cor, TREC, SPOT, GPS, LIDAR, Dynamax TDP Sop
Flow systems, Decagon ProCheck soil moisture probes, HOBO and CR1000
environmental loggers, Photovoltaic cells, and Morningstar Solar power
equipment, along with all associated off - loading programs.
Key Projects
SFWMD Storm Treatment Area
Monitoring
Working as a consultant for SFWMD,
Mr. Mohler conducted ecological
and hydrological monitoring of
Storm Treatment Areas (STA) that
encompass 65000 acres as well as
assisting in a mesocosm experiment
on site. Surveys included wading
bird, submerged aquatic vegetation
and emergent vegetation. Data
from this ongoing project are used
to determine the functionality of
the STAB and the abilities of wetland
plants to remove nutrients from the
water. Soil cores and water samples
are also taken and analyzed to
determine the nutrient composition
of these STAS. GIS digital maps using
GPS point locations, vegetation, and
hydrological data were created.
SFWMD Tree Sap Flow Study
Working as a consultant for SFWMD,
Mr. Mohler conducted studies
measuring the Total Sap Flow of
a variety of trees across multiple
Everglades tree islands to determine
the total transpiration throughout
different hydrological regimes. Leaf
area, soil cores and environmental
conditions are also recorded to
create a complete report of findings.
Digital maps were also created using
ArcView and utilizing the SFWMD GIS
server.
City of Fort Lauderdale Executive
Airport (FXE) Wildlife Hazard
Assessment
As part of our Environmental
Continuing Services contract, Mr.
Mohler conducted weekly wildlife
observation data collection efforts,
GPS collection and GIS digital map
creation. Mr. Mohler utilized Arc
Toolbox to create buffers around
GPS points, calculate area using
geoprocessing tools and created
a geodatabase including wildlife
utilization data.
Everglades Tree Islands GIS
Working as a consultant for SFWMD,
Mr. Mohler created a database and
City of Sunny Isles Beach 33 CC
continuing ?rofessioncl Services for Engineering
.7Fa No. 14-07-02
Augur 12. 2()J4
