SECTION 4 - APPROACH /METHODOLOGY
REQUEST FOR QUALIFICATIONS NO. 14 -07 -02
flooding during the 100 -year, 72 -hour storm event.
The following design criteria will be analyzed and incorporated into the storm water management
investigation:
Soils Criteria
A subsurface soils investigation by our sub - consultant, Tierra South Florida Inc. (TSF), including soil
borings and percolation tests, will be undertaken to determine the soil characteristics within the
project limits. The findings of this investigation will be incorporated into the storm water
management system analysis.
Hydrology
The hydrologic simulations will be completed utilizing either SWMM 5.0 (PCSWMM by Chi
Water) or the Inter - Connected Pond Routing (ICPR) computer modeling software Version 3.11
(Streamline Technologies) dependent upon the City's preference. Rainfall will be based on an
average of the South Florida'Water Management District (SFWMD) isohyetal maps for specified
design storm events. Watershed hydrographs- will.be- prepared_based'upon the South Florida
Water Management District's rainfall distribution curve presented -in their Basis of Review
document. 7( ( 1
As noted earlier
recurrence Inter
1. 5 -year. 24 -hdur event\
2. 10 -year, 24 -hour event
3. 100 -year, 72 -hour event
Hydraulics
Level of Service
Pavement Encrc
Ouse
ng
ng the following design storm
Watershed hydraulic simulations will be performed utilizing the preferred computer software.
Modeling of the project will be based upon accepted hydraulic principles to determine conveyance
capacities of pipes: and where no pipes existed, the use of weirs to connect adjacent basins.
SFWMD & DERM Controls
Storm water management controls, as promulgated under Chapter 40E of the Florida
Administrative Code, will be utilized in the preparation of the storm water management plan for
the area.
CTA will determine design parameters, water quality improvement levels, evaluate drainage
alternatives and compare their effectiveness to meet desired the storm water requirements.
CTA will prepare the necessary plans, calculations, and permit applications to submit to the City of
Sunny Isles Beach, Miami -Dade County PERA (DERM), and FDOT and /or FDEP as necessary.
CRAVEN THOMPSON & ASSOCIATES.
