28 <br /> <br />C. RIC-MAN shall provide a Competent Person to examine the material and equipment in place. <br />The Competent Person shall determine if the materials and equipment in place are suitable for <br />the continuing safety of the RIC-MAN employee s. Inspections shall take place on an as-needed <br />basis. If the Competent Person cannot conclude that the support system or protective system is <br />able to support all foreseeable loads, the Competent Person shall have the material or equipment <br />removed. After the corrective action has been taken, the corrected support system or protective <br />system shall be evaluated and approved by a registered professional engineer before the <br />excavation is opened to employee s. <br /> <br /> <br />Support System <br /> <br />An Employees shall assure that all members of support system are securely connected to <br />avoid sliding, falling, kickout s, or other foreseeable failures. <br /> <br />B. Employees shall install and remove all members of support systems in a manner that <br />protects them and other employees from cave-ins, structural collapses, or from being struck by <br />members of the support system. Employees shall seek direction from a Competent Person <br />before installing or removing support systems. <br /> <br />C. Employees sha ll assure that no member of a support system is subjected to loads <br />exceeding those loads which the member were designed to withstand. Employees shall <br />seek directions from a Competent Person before beginning installation or removal of a <br />support system or any of its members. <br /> <br />D. If an employee seeks to temporarily remove an individual member of a support <br />system, the employee shall obtain the consent of a RIC -MAN Competent Person as defined <br />by OSHA standard s. <br /> <br />E. Employees shall begin removal of a support system and progress from the bottom. <br />Employees shall release the members slowly so that any indication of failure of any remaining <br />members of the structure can be foreseen. Employees shall not commence removal of a support <br />system without the supervision of a RIC-MAN Competent Person as defined by OSHA <br />standards. <br /> <br />F. Employees shall proceed with backfill together with the removal of the support system <br />from excavations. <br /> <br />
