THE CITY OF SUNNY ISLES BEACH
PROJECT NO. 21-1011
BUILDING DEPARTMENT RELOCATION TO ANNEX

Project No. 21-1011 November 2024 033000 Cast-in-Place Concrete-16

change.
3. Air Content: ASTM C 231, pressure method, for normal-weight concrete; one
test for each composite sample, but not less than one test for each day's
pour of each concrete mixture.

4. Concrete Temperature: ASTM C 1064; one test hourly when air
temperature is 40 deg F and below and when 80 deg F and above, and one
test for each composite sample.

5. Compression Test Specimens: ASTM C 31.

a. Cast and laboratory cure one set of four standard cylinder
specimens for each composite sample.
b. Where the Contractor intends to remove load supporting forms
(when conditions permit), cast and field cure one set of four
standard cylinder specimens for each composite sample. Field
curing shall continue up to within four hours prior to laboratory
testing. The Contractor shall be responsible for the safe field
storage of the concrete cylinders during the field curing process.

6. Compressive-Strength Tests: ASTM C 39; test one laboratory-cured
specimen at 7 days and two specimens at 28 days. The fourth cylinder shall
be held for testing as a check cylinder.

a. A 28-day compressive-strength test shall be the average
compressive strength of two specimens obtained from same
composite sample.

7. Test results shall be submitted in writing to Engineer, concrete
manufacturer, and Contractor within 48 hours of testing. Reports of
compressive-strength tests shall contain:

a. Project identification name and number
b. Name of concrete testing and inspecting agency
c. Date of concrete placement
d. Date of compressive strength test
e. Location of concrete batch in Work Design compressive strength at
28 days
f. Mix design designation
g. Slump of concrete
h. Temperature of concrete at placement
i. Percent air entrained
j. Number of specimens tested
k. Compressive breaking strength
l. Type of break for both 7- and 28-day tests

8. Strength of each concrete mixture will be satisfactory if every average of any
three consecutive compressive-strength tests equals or exceeds specified
compressive strength and no compressive-strength test value falls below
specified compressive strength by more than 500 psi.
