Nailing Strips: Western softwood, preservative treated, sized to masonry joints. <br /> <br />2.4 LINTELS <br /> <br />A. Constructed from concrete masonry lintel blocks. <br /> <br />PART 3 - EXECUTION <br /> <br />3.1 PREPARATION <br /> <br />A. Verify items provided by other sections of work are properly sized and located. <br /> <br />B. Establish lines, levels, and coursing. Protect from disturbance. <br /> <br />C. Provide temporary bracing during erection of masonry work. Maintain in place until building <br />structure provides permanent bracing. <br /> <br />3.2 COURSING <br />A. Place masonry to lines and levels indicated. <br /> <br />B. Maintain masonry courses to uniform width. Vertical and horizontal mortar joints shall be <br />installed between blocks, shall be equal and of uniform thickness. Exposed joints shall be <br />tooled to a slightly concave profile; unexposed surfaces may be struck smooth. Walls and <br />parapet surfaces which will receive membrane sheet flashing and counter-flashing, and shall <br />be constructed to permit the installation of base flashing materials as specified in Division 07 <br />Section "Thermoplastic Membrane Roofing". <br /> <br />C. Lay concrete masonry units in running bond. Course one block unit and one mortar joint to <br />equal eight (8") inches. Alternate open ended and double open-ended blocks in each course. <br />Bond beams shall consist of alternately placed open ended and double open ended bond <br />beam block. <br /> <br />3.3 PLACING AND BONDING <br /> <br />A. Lay masonry in full bed of mortar, properly jointed with other work. Buttering corners of <br />joints, and deep or excessive furrowing of mortar joints are not permitted. <br /> <br />B. Fully bond intersections, and external and internal corners. <br /> <br />C. Do not shift or tap masonry units after mortar has taken initial set. Where adjustment must <br />be made, remove the mortar and replace. <br /> <br />D. Remove excess mortar. <br /> <br />E. Perform jobsite cutting with proper tools to provide straight unchipped edges. Take care to <br />prevent breaking masonry unit corners or edges. <br /> <br />3.4 REINFORCEMENT AND ANCHORAGES <br />A. Install horizontal joint reinforcement 16 inches on center and seismic comb reinforcement <br />were indicated on the drawings.
