Summary of Work: The work specified by the CONTRACTOR shall consist of the excavation <br />and embankment required for the construction of the roadway, ditches, and shoulders <br />shown on the Drawings and includes the preparation of subgrades, the construction of <br />embankments, and utilization or disposal of the materials excavated, and the compaction <br />and dressing of excavated areas and embankments. All work shall be in accordance with <br />the alignment, grades and sections as shown in the Drawings or as directed. <br /> <br />1.2 APPLICABLE PUBLICATIONS <br /> <br />A. Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT): <br /> <br />1. Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction, latest edition, (FDOT) <br /> <br />B. American Society of Testing Materials (ASTM). <br /> <br />1. D698-00a - Standard Test Methods for Laboratory Compaction Characteristics of <br />Soil Using the Standard Effort (12,400 ft-lbf/ft3(600 kN-m/m3)). <br /> <br />2. D 1556-00 - Standard Test Method for Density and Unit Weight of Soil in Place by <br />Sand Cone Method. <br /> <br />3. D1557-00 - Standard Test Methods for Laboratory Compaction Characteristics of <br />Soil Using Modified Effort (56,000 ft-lbf/ft3(2,700kN-m/m3)). <br /> <br />4. D 2922-01 - Standard Test Methods for Density of Soil and Soil-Aggregate in Place <br />by the Nuclear Methods (Shallow Depth). <br /> <br />1.3 DEFINITIONS: (Not Used) <br /> <br />1.4 SUBMITTALS : (Not Used) <br /> <br />1.5 QUALIFICATIONS: (Not Used) <br /> <br />1.6 RESPONSIBILITIES: (Not Used) <br /> <br />1.7 CERTIFICATIONS AND TESTING: <br /> <br />1.8 TESTS: <br /> <br />A. If the ENGINEER deems necessary, field density tests may be used in accordance with <br />ASTM D 1556-00, Test for Soil in Place by Sand Cone Method, or ASTM D 2922-01. The <br />areas to be tested shall be determined by the ENGINEER. Laboratory compaction tests <br />shall be conducted in accordance with ASTM D D698-00a and D1557-00. Cost of testing <br />will be the responsibility of the DISTRICT. The CONTRACTOR shall make the site available
