Waste Reduction Strategies <br />Material Procurement: <br />• Source materials in quantities that align with the project's exact needs to prevent <br />over -ordering. <br />• Choose suppliers who offer take -back programs for packaging and excess materials. <br />Storage and Handling: <br />• Store materials properly to prevent damage and subsequent disposal. <br />• Train workers on efficient material handling to reduce waste from mistakes or <br />mishandling. <br />C. Recycling and Reuse <br />On-site Sorting: Establish clearly labeled bins for different materials (e.g., wood, metal, <br />concrete) to ensure waste is segregated for recycling. <br />Off-site Recycling: Partnerwith recycling centers to process materials Like metal, concrete, <br />drywall, and cardboard. <br />Reuse on Site: <br />• Concrete and Asphalt: Can be crushed and reused for site grading or base layers in <br />new pavement. <br />• Wood and Timber: Can be replaced with temporary structures or donated to local <br />organizations. <br />• Metals: Ensure all scrap metal is sent to recycling facilities. <br />Donation: Partner with local charities to donate usable surplus materials (e.g., Habitat for <br />Humanity). <br />D. Hazardous Waste Management <br />• Identification: Identify potential hazardous materials like asbestos, lead-based <br />paint, solvents, and adhesives early in the project. <br />• Storage: Store hazardous materials in compliant containers and areas that prevent <br />Leaks, spills, or contamination. <br />• Disposal: Use licensed contractors to handle and dispose of hazardous waste <br />according to EPA and local regulations. <br />• Training: Train workers on handling hazardous waste safely and in compliance with <br />regulations. <br />E.
