Contractor shall comply with all Requirements of Regulatory Agencies current restrictions in <br />regard to movement of sod, into or within areas which are outside of quarantine boundaries for <br />the white fringed beetle and the imported fire ant, as issued by the following agencies: <br /> <br />1. U.S. Department of Agriculture, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service. <br />2. Florida Department of Agriculture, Division of Plant Industry. <br /> <br />D. Standards: <br /> <br />1. Authority for Nomenclature Species, etc.: <br />a. All botanical and common names for sod have been derived from Standardized Plant <br />Names, latest Edition, prepared by the American Joint Committee on Horticultural <br />Nomenclature. Names of varieties not included therein have been generally derived from <br />names accepted in the landscape industry. Where local nomenclature of the <br />common name differs, the local nomenclature has been used. <br />2. Grade Standards: <br />a. All sod shall be nursery grown except where specified otherwise, and shall comply with <br />all required inspections, grading standards and plant regulations as set forth by the <br />Florida Department of Agriculture. <br />b. Federal Specifications (FS) O-F-241c(1), Fertilizers, Mixed Commercial. <br />3. Testing Agency: Independent Testing Laboratory. <br /> <br />E. Certificates: <br /> <br />1. Growers Certification: <br />a. Grass species, and location of field from which sod is cut. <br />2. Manufacturer's certification of fertilizer and herbicide composition. <br /> <br />1.04 CUTTING, DELIVERY AND HANDLING: <br /> <br />A. Cutting Sod: After approval of source, mow and rake as necessary to remove excessive top <br />growth and debris. Cut sod with sod cutters, retaining native soil mat of sufficient thickness to <br />withstand handling. <br /> <br />B. Transporting: <br /> <br />1. Movement of sod shall comply with all Federal, State and Local laws and regulations. <br />2. Sod shall be transported on vehicles of adequate size. <br /> <br />C. Delivery: Deliver sod on pallets with root system protected from exposure to wind and sun. <br />Deliver sod in quantities capable of being installed within 24 hours of cutting. Protect sod against <br />dehydration, contamination, and heating during transportation and delivery. <br /> <br />D. Storage: Keep stored sod moist and under shade, or covered with moistened burlap. Do not pile <br />sod more than 2 feet deep. <br /> <br />E. Handling: Handle sod in a manner to prevent dislodging native soil mat. Tearing of sod shall be <br />prohibited. <br /> <br />
