<br /> <br /> <br />City of Sunny Isles Beach <br />NE 174th Street Roadway Improvements <br />329200 - 3 Sodding <br /> <br /> <br />1.05 SUBSTITUTIONS: <br /> <br />A. Substitutions of sod types shall be permitted only upon submission of documented proof that the <br />particular type specified is not obtainable. The Architect shall submit substitute for approval by <br />the Architect. <br /> <br />1.06 GUARANTEE: <br /> <br />A. All sod shall be guaranteed for a minimum of ninety days from the time of beneficial occupancy. <br /> <br />B. Replacement: The guaranteeing of sod shall be construed to mean the complete and immediate <br />replacement of sod if it is: <br /> <br />1. Not in a healthy growing condition. <br />2. There is a question to its survival ability at the end of the guarantee period. <br />3. It is dead. <br /> <br />C. Quality of Replacement: Replacement of sod shall be of the same species and quality as that of <br />the plant to be replaced. <br /> <br />D. Guarantee, Null, and Void: The guarantee shall be null and void for sod which is damaged, <br />unhealthy, or dies as a result of "Acts of God" limited to hail, freeze, and winds which exceed <br />hurricane force, providing the sod was in a healthy growing condition prior to these "Acts of <br />God". <br /> <br />E. Repair damage to other plants during sod replacement. <br /> <br /> <br />PART 2 - PRODUCTS <br /> <br />2.01 SOD: <br /> <br />A. Sod shall be of the varieties St. Augustine 'FLORATAM' or Argentine Bahia, (as per plant list <br />and or plans),both well matted with roots, and of a firm, tough texture, having a compact top <br />growth and heavy root development. It shall be free of objectionable grassy and broad leaf <br />weeds. Sod shall not be accepted if it contains Bermuda grass. Sod sections shall be strong <br />enough to support their own weight and retain their size and shape when suspended vertically <br />from a firm grasp on the upper 10 percent of the section. Sod shall not be harvested or <br />transplanted when moisture content (excessively dry or wet may adversely affect its survival. <br />Sod shall be relatively free of thatch, up to one half inch allowable (uncompressed). Sod shall be <br />free of nut grass and other weeds. <br /> <br />B. The soil embedded in the sod shall be clean earth; free of stones and debris. Except where another <br />grade is specifically called for in the plans, all sod shall be no less than Florida No. 1 at the time <br />of final inspection, immediately prior to beneficial occupancy. Sod shall be inspected and found <br />free of diseases, nematodes, pest and pest larvae, by entomologist of the State Dept. of <br />Agriculture. <br /> <br />C. The sod shall have been mowed at least three times with a lawn mower with final mowing not <br />more than seven days prior to the sod being cut for placement. The sod shall be provided in
