It shall be machine cut at a uniform sort thickness or 5/8", <br />plus or minus 1/4", at time of cutting. Measurement for thickness shall exclude top growth and <br />thatch. The sod shall be live, fresh and uninjured at the time of planting. It shall be planted <br />within 24 hours after being cut and shall be shaded and kept moist from the time it is cut until it is <br />planted. <br /> <br />2.02 PLANTING SOIL: <br /> <br />All sod shall be planted on 2" of planting soil. The planting soil shall be sandy loam typical of the <br />locality and composed of 50 percent sand and 50 percent muck. The soil must be taken from ground <br />that has never been stripped. There must be a slight acid reaction (5.5 to 6.5) to the soil with no excess <br />of calcium or carbonate. Soil shall be delivered in a loose friable condition. <br /> <br />2.03 FERTILIZER: <br /> <br />A. Fertilizer for sod shall be a fertilizer with a chemical designation of 6-6-6 or 8-8-8. It shall have <br />at least 50 percent of the nitrogen derived from natural organic sources and shall contain the <br />minimum minor elements of a least three units of magnesium, 1/2 to 1 unit of manganese, and <br />one unit of iron. Potash shall be derived from sulfate of potash only. Liquid fertilizer shall not be <br />permitted. <br /> <br />B. Composition and Quality: All fertilizer shall be uniform in composition, and dry. Fertilizer in <br />bags shall be free flowing in condition for application by suitable equipment, and shall also be <br />delivered in unopened bags or containers, each fully labeled with the manufactured analysis. Any <br />fertilizer that becomes caked or otherwise damaged making it unsuitable for use shall not be <br />accepted. <br /> <br />2.04 WATER: <br />Potable or reuse from city water supply or other sources that are approved by a public health <br />department. Water shall meet requirements in Section 329300- Soil Preparation. <br /> <br />2.05 STAKES: <br />Softwood, 3/4" by 3/4" by 8", unpainted and untreated. <br /> <br /> <br />PART 3 - EXECUTION <br /> <br />3.01 INSPECTION: <br /> <br />A. The existence and location of utilities (overhead, above ground and underground) shall be <br />thoroughly investigated and verified by the subcontractor before the work begins in the area of <br />said utilities. The subcontractor shall exercise care in digging and working so as not to damage <br />utilities or endanger the safety and lives of people. Should overhead, above ground or <br />underground obstructions be encountered which interfere with the work, the Architect shall be <br />consulted in order for a decision to be made on the relocation of the work to clear such <br />obstruction. The subcontractor shall be responsible for the immediate repair of any damage to <br />utilities caused by his /her work. <br /> <br /> <br />
