ALVARO SAENZ SHEEN, PE, PTOE, RSP1
TRAFFIC ENGINEER
Southbound Segment of SR 93 / I-75 from MP 1.06 to MP 3.75 Speed Study for FDOT (Districtwide Traffic Operations
Consultant) (2020) | In this study, I conducted field reviews to assess existing traffic conditions to identify issues in order
improve safety in the studied segment. I evaluated traffic data such as speed data by means of machine detection and radar in
order to obtain speed parameters such as 85th percentile speed, average speed, speed variance, and pace. I provided a crash
analysis of the studied segmentbased upon the latest five years of crash data. I performed a safe curve speed studyto determine
the advisory speed at which motorists would be able to safely negotiate the southbound direction of horizontal curve located at
MP 1.75. Finally, I provided recommendations that included the implementation of a transitional posted speed zone, installation
of speed control measures at the curved alignment, and installation of flashing speed feedback signs following the Manual of
Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). I provided analysis and evaluation of existing and proposed traffic
operations using synchro 9.0 software. I provided recommendations that included removing an exclusive pedestrian phase,
implementing a concurrent pedestrian phase operating with through movements, and optimizing signal offsets and timing.
Contact: Xaviel Llerena, (305) 470-5303, Xaviel.Llerena@dot.state.
