Smith & Associates (CAS) understands that the City of Sunny Isles Beach requires a responsive <br />multidisciplinary consulting team capable of providing continuing engineering services for projects of varying <br />scope, complexity, and urgency. The challenges that face coastal communities nowadays involves impacts <br />from sea level rise (SLR) during moderate to severe storm events with drainage systems that are unsuitable <br />to provide reasonable flood levels of service. Even in some areas that do not experience a rainfall event, <br />SLR can result in tidal flooding affecting critical infrastructure, critical community areas, and possibly first <br />responders as well. Coastal communities with low lying roads are more impacted by SLR than communities <br />having higher ground elevations and face the potential of experiencing road damage due to excessive water <br />levels at the road base. Resilient solutions may require elevating roads and their harmonization of adjacent <br />driveways, and new drainage systems with stormwater pumping stations with the intent to design at a <br />8
