Continuing Professional Architectural and Engineering Consulting Services (CCNA), RFQ 26-07-01
Cummins Cederberg | Trusted by the Coast. Proven in Practice.
16
MARINE STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING
Our design philosophy is to develop resilient and adaptable
marine structures that not only meet engineering
requirements decades into the future but also provide
immediate benefits to the community and environment.
Marine structures must withstand challenging conditions
including saltwater exposure, storm waves, tidal currents,
scour, and other dynamic loading conditions. By
combining marine structural engineering expertise with
a deep understanding of coastal processes, our team
develops solutions that optimize performance, reduce
maintenance requirements, and extend service life.
Cummins Cederberg engineers have designed more
than 250+ seawalls projects throughout Florida, the
majority of which are located along the Intracoastal
Waterway and Atlantic coastline. Our experience
ranges from large-scale municipal projects, such as the
approximately 2,500-linear-foot Dade Boulevard Seawall
Project in Miami Beach, to highly constrained urban
shoreline projects requiring extensive utility coordination
and innovative design solutions. The Dade Boulevard
project required modifications to avoid impacts to critical
utilities through the use of alternative structural systems,
resulting in successful construction without impacts to
buried infrastructure.
Our engineers remain involved throughout the
entire project lifecycle from inspections and field
investigations through planning, permitting, design,
bidding, and construction administration to provide
practical, constructible solutions. We utilize 3D drafting
and advanced engineering tools to maximize project
performance, maintain public safety, and satisfy
regulatory requirements.
Cummins Cederberg provided assessment, design, permitting,
bidding support, and construction administration services
for the rehabilitation and replacement of a deteriorated
Intracoastal Waterway seawall at Coastal Towers in Sunny Isles
Beach delivering a practical and cost-effective solution that
was completed on time and within budget.
Locally, Cummins Cederberg recently completed the
assessment, design, permitting, and construction
administration of the Coastal Towers Seawall and
Dock Project in Sunny Isles Beach. The project involved
rehabilitation and replacement of a deteriorated
Intracoastal Waterway seawall, environmental
permitting through DERM, FDEP, and USACE, contractor
procurement support, and construction inspection
services. The project was completed on time and within
budget, with final construction costs remaining within
5% of the engineer’s estimate.
The engineering team is highly experienced in the use
of innovative materials and resilient design approaches,
including Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer (GFRP)
reinforcement, living seawall technologies, and habitat-
enhancing shoreline features. These approaches
reduce long-term maintenance costs, improve durability
in marine environments, and provide opportunities to
integrate environmental benefits with flood protection and
shoreline stabilization.
