Proven in Practice. <br />17 <br />UNDERWATER INSPECTIONS <br />With the increased focus on tidal flooding and resiliency, <br />assessing and understanding service life of marine <br />structures becomes paramount in meeting those <br />requirements in a cost effective and pragmatic way. Each <br />engineer on our team who performs these inspections <br />understands coastal and marine processes (waves, <br />currents, erosion, etc) which means we are not only <br />assessing the structural condition but also the underlying <br />reason for the deterioration. <br />Cummins Cederberg has unparalleled in-house expertise <br />relative to the inspection of piers, bulkheads, marinas, <br />wharfs, docks, water taxi berths, port infrastructure, <br />boat ramps, and seawalls. Similar to upland structures, <br />waterfront structures such as seawalls require inspections <br />during construction to ensure the project is being built <br />in compliance with the contract documents and after <br />construction to evaluate condition and recommend <br />maintenance activities. Each engineer on our team who <br />performs underwater inspections understands coastal <br />processes (e.g., waves, currents, erosion) and marine <br />structure design, allowing them to not only assess the <br />structural condition but also the underlying reason for the <br />deterioration. <br />We are capable of fielding three OSHA-compliant dive <br />teams to conduct underwater investigations of coastal <br />structures. Our staff includes eight engineer-divers, seven <br />of which are registered Professional Engineers in Florida. <br />With the increased focus on tidal flooding and resiliency, <br />assessing and understanding the remaining service life of <br />Engineer diver performing underwater structural <br />assessments to evaluate the condition of seawalls and <br />waterfront infrastructure for the City of Hollywood. <br />marine structures becomes paramount in meeting those <br />requirements in a cost effective and pragmatic way. <br />We understand the City has already issued a seawall <br />prioritization list based on numerous factors to help <br />reconstruct seawalls on to maximize benefits to the <br />overall community. However, as the City moves forward <br />the seawall projects, implementation of underwater <br />inspections during construction and as part of a periodic <br />maintenance program consisting of routine above- and <br />underwater structural investigations would provide the <br />City with valuable information to adjust the prioritization <br />list as needed based on the conditions encountered. <br />Cummins Cederberg can assist the City to develop and <br />implement these inspections to update the prioritization <br />list as necessary, which could also include a plan for post- <br />storm assessments of seawalls impacted after major <br />storms. <br />MARINE RESOURCES <br />Our environmental permitting staff are complemented <br />by a robust team of marine biologists and environmental <br />specialists. Our highly experienced biologists and <br />environmental scientists routinely develop biological <br />assessments and monitoring plans, conduct a range of <br />environmental investigations including marine resource <br />surveys, environmental assessments, benthic habitat <br />monitoring, hardbottom mapping, habitat mitigation <br />monitoring, wetland delineation, seagrass surveys, coral <br />relocation programs, vegetation surveys, and biological <br />monitoring programs for a variety of coastal projects <br />throughout Florida. <br />Our regulatory team and marine biologists work in concert <br />with our engineers to achieve overall design intent and <br />project goals, while protecting marine resources and <br />aiding an efficient regulatory approval process. This <br />internal team of marine biologists and environmental <br />scientists, include 13 scientific divers trained per 29 CFR <br />1910.410 and the American Academy of Underwater <br />Sciences (AAUS), all of which have professional experience <br />conducting hardbottom and benthic monitoring surveys.
