YEARS OF EXPERIENCE
• 10
EDUCATION
• BSc, Geology, Minor in
Economics - College of
Charleston
• MSc, Oceanography - Florida
Institute of Technology
LICENSES
• Professional Geologist,
Florida No. PG3129
• Remote Unmanned
Commercial Aircraft Pilot
(FAA)
Will is a geologist and environmental scientist with experience in environmental
permitting, environmental sampling, conducting environmental surveys, and
working on waterfront development or infrastructure projects in Florida.
He has extensive field work experience in Florida as well as in other states
and South America. He is capable of processing field data and generating
maps, analyzing geologic coastal processes, writing technical reports, and
performing environmental surveys.
RELEVANT PROJECT EXPERIENCE
Biscayne Point and Collins Canal, Miami, Florida. Marine resource surveyor
performing marine resource survey of mangroves, seagrass, and coral along
approximately 1.4 miles of canals within Biscayne Bay at Biscayne Point and
in selected locations at Collins Canal for the City of Miami Beach. This survey
resulted in a resource maps and GIS location maps being prepared for the
City. In addition Will prepared environmental permit applications through
FDEP, Miami Dade County DERM, and USACE for geotechnical investigation,
and maintenance dredging of these two canals.
FDEP Living Shoreline Database, State of Florida. Contracted with the Florida
Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) to develop an excel database
of state-permitted living shorelines from 2010 to 2022 and assisted with the
data collection, organization, and formatting of an excel database and GIS
geodatabase.
Living Shoreline Assessment, Miami Beach, Florida. Analyzed over 120
City-owned shoreline segments to select the most optimal locations for
implementing living shoreline solutions. Prepared seagrass maps in GIS using
data collected during marine resource surveys, which was used to inform the
selection of living shoreline locations.
Mockingbird Lane Drainage Improvements, Martin County, Florida.
Assisting with the permitting applications. The project includes raising the
road, installing culverts and installing a retaining wall. An old mosquito ditch
with dense mangrove trees borders the road and will be impacted. Mitigation
planning is also part of the scope of work. Design and agency (FDEP, USACE,
Martin County) pre-application meetings are underway.
Sawfish Bay Park, Jupiter, Florida. Conducted marine resource surveys,
assisted with an engineering inspection, designed living shorelines for
mangrove and oyster restoration, reviewed a flushing analysis report, and
prepared and processed permit documents for the living shorelines.
Fisher Island Resident Marina, Fisher Island, Florida. Assisted in a large coral
relocation effort to remove corals from a seawall that was being replaced and
placed them on nearby offshore hardbottom.
Phillipi Creek Maintenance Dredging, Sarasota County, Florida. Conducting
a feasibility study to identify potential maintenance dredging needs for
WILLIAM LORENTZEN, PG
Environmental Permitting
