Kevin D. Buruchian, EIT Senior Waterfront Engineer/Diver Mr. Buruchian has worked exclusively in waterfront projects since joining GEI Consultants Inc., where he has gained experience in coastal engineering and waterfront issues associated with facility inspections, material conditions and design of marine structures. Mr. Buruchian has also spent a couple of years as a project manager/engineer at a marine construction firm where he was able to balance engineering and construction techniques to meet the clients’ needs. His experience also includes the above and underwater inspection of marine facilities and design of steel bulkheads, timber piers and wharfs as well as concrete and stone seawalls and revetments. Other relevant experience also includes performance of wind/wave analysis to develop design wave conditions; as well as the performance of topographic surveys and overseeing geotechnical investigations. He brings a wide variety of resources to each project. PROJECT EXPERIENCE Saquatucket Marina, Harwich, MA. Project Engineer, oversaw the design and construction for the reconstruction of the Town’s Recreational Marina at Saquatucket Harbor. The reconstruction project for the marina project called for the complete removal of the existing deteriorated marina and the rebuild of the facility with an updated layout and expansion of approximately 8 slips. The new marina supports ADA passenger ferries, a commercial fishing fleet and a growing recreational fleet of boats. The new marina was dredged to provide safe passage of the vessels throughout the facility. All new main walkways were constructed of concrete floats and all submains and fingers were timber topped with topical hardwood. The marina was designed to meet the increased flood levels projected for the site. All new utilities were installed including water, fire, electrical and telecommunications to provide the most benefits to the marina customers. The Project consisted of permitting, design, bid phase support and construction oversight including resident engineering. The project was completed 2018. Harwich Wychmere Town Dock, Commercial Pier and Bulkhead Reconstruction, Harwich, MA. Served as Project Engineer. Oversaw all elements of the design, and construction for the reconstruction of the Town’s commercial pier at Wychmere Harbor. The reconstruction project for the replacement-in-kind construction project called for the complete removal of the existing pier and deteriorated bulkheads and the rebuild of the facility essentially within the same footprint with the new bulkhead being installed just outshore of the existing wall. The new pier was constructed with timber pile foundation, concrete pile caps and a concrete deck. The pier deck height was raised to accommodate the higher tides and reduce the times of overtopping during storm surges and spring tides. Services included investigation of site, design of reconstruction, preparation of construction documents, assisting the Town in the bidding and award and providing construction phase oversight. The project was completed July 2015 and in full operation. Salem Wharf, Final Design, City of Salem, MA. Project Engineer and performed design of lateral and vertical load analysis for the marine terminal facility including pile supported concrete pier, wave attenuator, passenger vessel docking facilities, small cruise ship docking facilities, commercial vessel berthing and dredging. Developed structural design elements including vessel mooring and fender design, shoreline retaining walls and pedestrian boardwalk. Developed the vessel and wave loading criteria for the pier, vessels mooring and floating barge structures. Served as resident engineer during the first phase of construction of the pier currently under construction. Provincetown Marina Reconstruction, Provincetown, MA. Managing Project Engineer oversaw the Construction of the Provincetown Marina at Macmillan Wharf in Provincetown, MA. The project included the removal and reconstruction of the 50-slip marina, and installation of a 600-foot-long wave attenuation floating dock system. The existing marina was damaged in a storm and the replacement was funded via a Federal Emergency Management Agency grant.
