Arkansas River Site-Specific Selenium and Use Attainability
<br />Analysis, City of Pueblo, Pueblo, CO. Provided a review of fish
<br />species composition, including historic and current records,
<br />instream habitat conditions. Prepared written testimony for a
<br />proposed reclassification of the lower Arkansas River, Colorado,
<br />as well as development of ambient-based selenium criteria
<br />for three different stream segments. These ambient selenium
<br />standards were adopted by the Colorado Water Quality Control
<br />Commission.
<br />Molybdenum Aquatic Life Water Quality Criteria
<br />Development, Vranesh and Raisch, LLP, Boulder, CO.
<br />Development of appropriate aquatic life water quality
<br />molybdenum (Mo) standards for the state of Colorado. Efforts
<br />to develop a Mo standard included a literature search and
<br />data screening to ensure tests adhered to the appropriate
<br />methodology. Final acute and chronic criteria followed
<br />standard focused on the use of standard EPA criteria derivation
<br />methodology.
<br />Fort St. Vrain Water Supply Survey, Xcel Energy, Pueblo, CO.
<br />Completed an investigation and evaluated the appropriateness
<br />of a water supply use designation assigned to Segment 3 of
<br />St. Vrain Creek in Longmont, Colorado. The analysis included
<br />the identification of domestic wells within 200 feet of St. Vrain
<br />Creek and established the likelihood of a hydrologic connection
<br />between the wells and St. Vrain Creek.
<br />NISP Water Quality Effects Analysis, ERO Resources
<br />Corporation, Denver, CO. Assisted with evaluation for the
<br />potential for direct and indirect water quality impacts related
<br />to different water supply alternatives in the Poudre River
<br />Watershed. This analysis was part of the Supplemental Draft
<br />Environmental Impact Statement for the Northern Integrated
<br />Supply Project (NISP) and included a water quality assessment
<br />of over 100 regulated constituents representing 43 surface
<br />water and 8 ground water sites longitudinally distributed over
<br />60 river miles.
<br />Clear Creek Water Quality Standards, MillerCoors Brewing
<br />Company, Golden, CO. Participated in the development of
<br />site-specific water quality standards for Clear Creek. Project
<br />included evaluation of the existing water quality database
<br />for the presence of outliers and potential data gaps, as well
<br />as a review of potential new toxicity data. The site-specific
<br />standards were adopted by the Colorado Water Quality Control
<br />Commission.
<br />Chloride Aquatic Life Water Quality Criteria Review and
<br />Update, Vranesh and Raisch, LLP, Boulder, CO. Reviewed
<br />and completed a toxicity database update based on a literature
<br />review of the hardness and sulfate-based chloride aquatic
<br />life criteria currently applied in Illinois, Iowa, and Indiana.
<br />Evaluated whether the hardness and sulfate-based criteria
<br />would be appropriate for use in Colorado.
<br />Metals Criteria Review for Use in NPDES Discharge Permit,
<br />MineWater LLC, Alma, CO. Led field effort to identify sampling
<br />locations in multiple drainages and obtain access to private
<br />property. Field sampling includes backpack electrofishing for
<br />population estimates, field fish identifications, collection of
<br />benthic invertebrates using multiple sampling techniques, and
<br />habitat evaluations. Drafted an evaluation of existing stream
<br />metals standards and estimated revisions to the existing metals
<br />standards based on anticipated resident species.
<br />Biomonitoring Support and Selenium Bioaccumulation
<br />Modeling, Seneca Coal Company, Peabody Energy
<br />Subsidiary, Hayden, CO. Development of regulatory responses
<br />for a Notice of Violation and corresponding biomonitoring
<br />necessary to address selenium compliance and associated
<br />stream classifications on several tributaries to the Yampa
<br />River near Hayden, CO. Compiled a selenium database of
<br />invertebrate, fish, and periphyton tissues, sediment, and water
<br />column concentrations and modeled selenium transport
<br />through the food web.
<br />Emergency Environmental Permitting for Dam
<br />Reconstruction, Big Elk Meadows Association, Lyons, CO.
<br />Performed field investigations related to wetlands and sensitive
<br />habitats, as well as supported all associated environmental
<br />permitting through FEMA and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers,
<br />Omaha District prior to construction. Additionally, we
<br />completed acquisition of a NWP 27 for the restoration of each
<br />reservoir to replace aquatic habitat as a result of flood impacts.
