Charlestown Navy Yard New Ferry Landing, National Park
<br />Service, Charlestown, MA: Responsible for the structural
<br />design of a new passenger vessel berthing facility at the
<br />Charlestown Navy Yard. Design included an aluminum ramping
<br />system to meet ADA and MAAB accessibility requirements and
<br />a new 30’X70’ steel barge in accordance with ABS standards for
<br />barges. Also performed review and approval of construction
<br />phase submittals.
<br />Mystic Pier One Repairs, Massport, Boston, MA: Lead the
<br />field inspection team in the above and below water condition
<br />survey and determination of level of effort required to
<br />rehabilitate this facility to a functional level. Effort included
<br />the review and assessment of previous investigations,
<br />assessment of the pier’s 2,000-foot perimeter concrete
<br />structural slab and steel pile foundation and design of repairs.
<br />Black Falcon Cruise Terminal, Massport, Boston, MA:
<br />Performed many tasks on this project including Berthing
<br />analysis for cruise ships and final design of fender system,
<br />Mooring analysis of cruise ships to determine bollard
<br />requirements, providing as on-site resident engineer during
<br />construction, review and approval of shop drawings, and
<br />underwater inspection of completed work.
<br />Marine Terminals
<br />Salem Wharf, City of Salem, Salem, MA: Performed analysis
<br />and design of a new steel pile supported concrete pier with
<br />an integrated wave attenuator. Designed precast prestressed
<br />concrete slabs supported by precast concrete pile caps. Work
<br />included working with drainage subconsultant to ensure pier
<br />retains ADA and MAAB requirements as well as access routes
<br />for both vehicular and pedestrian access.
<br />Marine Terminal Facility Assessment and Mooring Analysis,
<br />CITGO, Braintree, MA: Performed underwater investigation
<br />and assessment of CITGO’s marine terminal facility including
<br />assessment of mooring and berthing dolphins; timber access
<br />piers; and mooring and fendering fixtures. Several deficiencies
<br />were identified, and repairs and upgrades have been designed
<br />and are now in construction. Completed analysis and design
<br />of the new steel pipe piled concrete pier and improved vessel
<br />fendering and mooring systems. Critical aspect included
<br />stabilization of partially complete work to prevent damage and
<br />to minimize impacts on terminal operations.
<br />Blossom Street Waterfront Facility, Lynn, MA: Performed
<br />the design and analysis of the concrete panel steel pile
<br />supported wave attenuator and shoreline stabilization
<br />including wave loading and distribution on the wave
<br />attenuator. Project is complete.
<br />South Boston Water Transportation Terminal, Massport,
<br />Boston, MA: Executed the design of a new major waterfront
<br />passenger vessel landing hub at the World Trade Center in
<br />South Boston. Project includes two steel pipe piled concrete
<br />piers with aluminum ramps and platforms to transition to four
<br />separate steel barges with varying freeboards. The new facility
<br />is to serve as a central water transportation center serving
<br />multiple ferries, excursion vessels, large and small cruise ships,
<br />charter fishing vessels and yachts and comply fully with ADA
<br />accessibility guidelines and MAAB accessibility regulations.
<br />Project is currently under final design and construction will be
<br />based on available funding.
<br />Shelburne Ship Repair and Marine Railway Reconstruction,
<br />Shelburne, Nova Scotia: Performed the design, analysis,
<br />and layout of the concrete filled steel caissons and the steel
<br />track including pre-tensioned track splices. Construction was
<br />completed in September 2011.
<br />Governor’s Island Berthing Facility, National Park
<br />Service, New York, NY: Responsible for the structural design
<br />of a new passenger vessel berthing facility on Governor’s
<br />Island. Design included a timber pile supported concrete
<br />access pier with an aluminum ramping system to meet ADA
<br />accessibility requirements and a new 30’X100’ steel barge
<br />in accordance with ABS standards for barges with multiple
<br />ferry landing elevations including an adjustable bow loader
<br />to accommodate existing ferries. Also performed review and
<br />approval of construction phase submittals.
<br />Structural
<br />Vehicle Ferry Transfer Ramps, Cape Verde: Served as
<br />Waterfront Engineer for design as part of a design-build team,
<br />of three moveable vehicle transfer bridges to accommodate
<br />existing Ro-Ro Ferries as well as a new high-speed vehicle ferry
<br />for separate islands. Effort included design of standardized
<br />movable ramp and support tower system, site improvements
<br />including foundations and concrete transition ramp. Design
<br />loading based on maximum truck loading and construction
<br />vehicle loading criteria. Effort was Phase I three sites for an
<br />eventual nine sites on all the major islands in Cape Verde.
<br />Phase I construction was completed in February 2011.
<br />MBTA Hingham Ferry Terminal, Hingham, MA: As Project
<br />Manager Responsible for the structural design of a new
<br />passenger vessel berthing facility at the MBTA ferry terminal
<br />in Hingham. Design included a timber pile supported concrete
<br />dolphins with long-span aluminum bridges. Additionally,
<br />an aluminum ramping system to meet ADA and MAAB
<br />accessibility requirements and three new 30’X115’ steel barge
<br />in accordance with ABS standards for barges with multiple
<br />ferry landing elevations to accommodate existing ferries.
<br />Project is currently out for bids with a construction value of
<br />$12M. Construction completion is expected end of 2025/ early
<br />2026.
<br />Marine Facility Investigation
<br />3000 LT Marine Railway Track Design, Pictou Shipyard,
<br />Pictou, Nova Scotia: Performed analysis and design of a
<br />new prefabricated modular steel track system. Worked in
<br />conjunction with Crandall Dry Dock Engineers.
