GEI Consultants | City of Sunny Isles Beach | RFQ 26-07-01 57 <br />Public Beach Storm Damage Assessment and Coastal Infrastructure Design <br />East Beach, Port Je erson, New York | Client: Village of Port Je erson <br />The Village of Port Je erson’s shoreline su ered significant beach erosion <br />and structural damage due to multiple State-of-Emergency storm events <br />(November 2009, March 2010, December 2010, Hurricane Irene, Superstorm <br />Sandy, and Tropical Storm Isaias). <br />These severe storm events have occurred in recent years with greater frequency and severity. <br />GEI was the primary environmental consultant assisting the Village through the damage <br />assessment phase and served as the lead coordinator with FEMA and the New York State <br />O ice of Emergency Management. GEI developed multiple FEMA project worksheets and site <br />restoration concept plans, oversaw topographic and bathymetric survey e orts, and completed <br />tidal wetland permitting for immediate measures to restore sites for public safety. <br />The resultant damage from these events required reconstruction of the existing rip- <br />rap revetment protecting the East Beach parking lot and recreation facility. The in-kind <br />reconstruction was completed in 2014. Immediately a er, significant erosion occurred along <br />the western end of the revetment and blu toe of slope, exacerbated by multiple nor’easters. <br />GEI developed a design to secure the section of Village Beach Road and associated drainage <br />structures in threat of becoming exposed and undermined, as well as provide safe access to the <br />public beach.
