GEI Consultants | City of Sunny Isles Beach | RFQ 26-07-01 64 <br />Salem Wharf Cruise Ship Access <br />Salem, Massachusetts | City of Salem <br />GEI was retained by the City of Salem to provide consulting services for the <br />development of the Blaney Street site for commercial marine development. <br />GEI was tasked to develop the site adjacent to the newly constructed Salem Wharf to <br />accommodate Coastal Cruise Ships. The Salem Wharf facility was designed to be the center <br />point of the City of Salem’s Maritime facilities with Cruise ship access, ferry boat ADA access, <br />commercial fishing marina, waterfront harborwalk, and upgraded parking lot. The Cruise Ship <br />Access was an expansion of the previous project to develop a revised plan based on current <br />needs and market conditions. <br />GEI lead a team of subconsultants to perform the design of an approximately $400,000 proposed <br />expansion for the City of Salem. <br />The major elements programmed into the facility include vessel berthing for: visiting vessels/tall <br />ships, excursion vessels, coastal cruise ships, off shore supply vessels. <br />The project included reconstruction/expansion of the existing timber pier structure to <br />provide a safe, accessible infill structure to allow passenger off loading via a mobile access <br />ramping system. The deck infill consisted of a concrete deck supported by a steel substructure <br />transferring load to the existing seawall, bulkhead and timber pier. The Timber pier was <br />modified to accommodate the new concrete infill. The existing mooring dolphins were modified <br />to accommodate floating foam fenders. <br />GEI was responsible for the overall project management as well as for all marine/waterfront <br />engineering design and planning elements for the redevelopment of the Blaney Street Site <br />including the Cruise Ship Access. Regulatory approvals obtained included Order of Conditions, <br />MA DEP Chapter 91 License and WQC.
