RFQ #26-07-01 Continuing Professional Architectural and Engineering Consulting Services | 26MLA00190 | Page 30 QualificationsSection 2 <br /> <br /> <br />FDOT District 4 SR 804/Boynton Beach Boulevard <br />Various Locations LAP <br />Boynton Beach, Florida <br /> <br />At various locations along eastern segments of SR <br />804/Boynton Beach Boulevard for this FDOT mobility <br />and LAP project within the City of Boynton Beach, <br />Miller Legg provided a variety of landscape <br />architecture services including Certified Arborist tree <br />inventories, analysis and tree disposition, conceptual <br />landscape, hardscape and irrigation design services. <br /> <br />The project expanded pedestrian zones on either side <br />of Boynton Beach Blvd. and included decorative <br />hardscape throughout these areas. Due to the site’s <br />proximity to the beach, Miller Legg utilized it as the <br />theme for the hardscape pattern. The pattern <br />consisted of blue integrally colored concrete in <br />variously sized wave patterns breaching into the <br />standard concrete of the sidewalk. A consistent sand <br />colored band followed the back of curb and grounds <br />the blue concrete as if it were the shoreline. <br /> <br />Constraints of the site played a large role in landscape <br />and hardscape design. Due to the number of <br />driveways along the corridor, clear sight lines became <br />an issue. To provide safe landscape elements, Miller <br />Legg utilized evenly spaced Solitaire Palms <br />throughout the corridor. However, adding palms <br />minimized the amount of usable pedestrian space. <br />Miller Legg took this issue and made it an <br />opportunity to enhance the hardscape design. <br />Custom tree grates were designed to hold the palms, <br />while maintaining as much walkable space as <br />possible. These concrete tree grates were also <br />designed to use an integrally colored concrete with a <br />darker hue of sand coloration. This portrays small <br />islands within the waves and creates a visual sense of <br />elevation compared to the sand-colored band. Miller <br />Legg also provided post design services.
