<br />Gumbo Limbo Nature Center Boardwalk
<br />Replacement - Managed a team and provided design and
<br />construction administration services for the replacement
<br />and rehabilitation of the boardwalk and observation tower
<br />within an ecologically sensitive area. The boardwalk was
<br />closed in early 2015 due to safety concerns. The habitat
<br />includes coastal scrub, hardwood forest and mangrove
<br />wetlands. Permitting was coordinated through Florida
<br />Department of Environmental Protection and US Army
<br />Corps of Engineers. Boardwalk improvements included
<br />safety improvements for replacement of deteriorated
<br />structures and ADA compliance. Scope included existing
<br />condition review, contract document preparation, bid
<br />package assembly, permit modification and construction
<br />administration/observation.
<br />Broward County Parks and Recreation West Lake
<br />Park II - Environmental Services - Permitting and design
<br />of enhancements for the second phase of this 1,500-acre
<br />estuarine wetland. The firm provided both environmental
<br />and engineering services for necessary mitigation for the
<br />Port Everglades and Ft. Lauderdale-Hollywood International
<br />Airport expansion projects. Services provided included:
<br />paving and drainage improvements for the nature center
<br />and associated parking lot, design of three sewage pump
<br />stations, water distribution system design, sanitary sewage
<br />collection and transmission system design, off-site force
<br />main, traffic engineering, surveying, water quality data
<br />analysis, hypothesis development and review, sediment
<br />analysis, fishery analysis, rip-rap design, benthic macro-
<br />invertebrate identification, seagrass survey, mitigation credit
<br />determination, and USACE dredge and fill permitting. The
<br />seagrass survey was conducted using scuba diving and digital
<br />global positioning satellite equipment and included transect/
<br />quadrant measurements of seagrass density, abundance, and
<br />frequency of occurrence.
<br />Florida Department of Transportation District 4 Las
<br />Olas Tunnel Plaza Rehabilitation - Miller Legg provided
<br />landscape architecture, irrigation, hardscape, surveying and
<br />in-depth construction observation services for the Plaza.
<br />The 115’ terraced pedestrian plaza extended over the north
<br />US 1 tunnel. The Plaza included ‘table topping’ Las Olas
<br />Boulevard and 3 existing plazas. The project transformed
<br />these four areas collectively into a cohesive pedestrian plaza
<br />experience, creating a unique, iconic, destination.
<br />for this Master Plan included comprehensive planning,
<br />recreation planning, significant maintenance planning,
<br />landscape architecture, and public outreach services. To
<br />develop programming, budget, and operational needs for
<br />a 10-year horizon, our team researched existing facilities
<br />and recreation opportunities, and needs analyses specific
<br />to South Miami demographics. Public outreach services
<br />included a public online survey, multiple public presentations
<br />and workshops.
<br />City of Coral Gables Cooper and Moore Parks - Under
<br />our continuing services contract with the City of Coral
<br />Gables, Miller Legg is providing landscape architecture
<br />and civil engineering services for the improvements to the
<br />Cooper and Moore parks in Miami. Our scope includes
<br />schematic park design and tree assessment, landscape
<br />architecture design, irrigation design, site civil design and
<br />photometric lighting plan. Miller Legg will also provide
<br />community outreach, bidding assistance and construction
<br />administration. Design improvements to the parks include
<br />lighting infrastructure for security and holiday lights, a new
<br />playground with play equipment for various ages, fitness
<br />equipment, and drinking fountains. With these Parks on
<br />separate parcels of land, specific design attention was critical
<br />in tying the Parks spaces together with new walkways, a
<br />unifying buffer wall, and revamping Park signage and
<br />wayfinding.
<br />City of Cocoa Beach CRA Minutemen Causeway
<br />- Provided surveying, SUE, landscape architecture and
<br />civil engineering design for a Florida Friendly streetscape
<br />beautification and stormwater improvement plan for the
<br />redevelopment of the City’s downtown area leading to
<br />the beach. The project proposed low impact stormwater
<br />facilities to meet the Total Maximum Daily Load reduction
<br />requirements as outlined within the Indian River Lagoon Basin
<br />Management Action Plan. The stormwater improvements
<br />included pervious paver sidewalks and parallel parking, bio-
<br />swales with native vegetation, and underground stormwater
<br />infiltration facilities with nutrient absorption materials. The
<br />entire project was a City pilot program for Low Impact
<br />Design (LID) and Best Management Practices for stormwater
<br />management and was able to secure funding from the
<br />State, including $5 million from the Florida Department of
<br />Environmental Protection.
<br />City of Coral Springs Sportsplex - A 25-acre recreational
<br />park expansion project requiring boundary and topographic
<br />surveying and mitigation design and jurisdictional wetland
<br />determinations, Wetland Rapid Assessment Procedure
<br />(WRAP) and Wetland Benefit Index (WBI) assessments,
<br />and permitting with the US Army Corps of Engineers, South
<br />Florida Water Management District, and Broward County.
