Conducted a geotechnical <br />engineering exploration for the New T5 Terminal project at Fort Lauderdale- <br />Hollywood International Airport (FLL). The project involves the construction of a <br />new five-gate unit terminal referred to as Terminal 5. The geotechnical phase of <br />the project consists of providing geotechnical recommendations in connection <br />with a new single-lane flyover bridge that connects to the Terminal Drive <br />exit bridge. Evaluated different foundation types alternatives. Square precast <br />prestressed concrete driven piles (PPCP), 24-inch square, was selected as the <br />preferable foundation system for the flyover bridge. Provided recommendations <br />for pile length and bearing elevation to achieve the nominal resistance and to <br />minimize postconstruction settlements. <br />Port of Miami - North Cruise Blvd. Extension – Phase IIB, Flyover Bridge, Miami- <br />Dade County, FL. Project consisted the construction of a new flyover bridge <br />structure at the Port of Miami. Geotechnical services included field exploration <br />and laboratory testing and foundation design of the proposed structure. Several <br />foundation alternatives were evaluated including shallow foundations, square <br />precast prestressed concrete (SPC) piles, steel piles, straight sided drilled <br />shafts and auger cast pile (ACP). Auger cast piles alternative was the preferable <br />foundation system for the project. <br />Caribbean Boulevard Bridge over C-1N Canal, Miami, FL. Conducted a <br />geotechnical exploration and evaluation for the design and construction of the <br />Caribbean Boulevard Bridge over C-1N Canal. Performed foundation analyses for <br />the proposed bridge that included compression, tension, and lateral load capacity <br />predictions of square driven precast prestressed concrete pile foundations, as well <br />as settlement estimates and pile installation criteria and addressed the potential <br />impact of pile driving vibrations on the existing structures including utilities. <br />Roadway Improvement of SR 934/NW 74St from SR 826 / Palmetto Expressway <br />to SR 251 Okeechobee Road in Miami-Dade County, FL. Prepared a geotechnical <br />report describing methods, procedures, field/laboratory test results, analyses and <br />evaluations for the proposed roadway improvements. The subsurface exploration <br />also included the evaluation of subsurface conditions and stratums of the <br />underlying layers for mast arms and pier protection barrier walls. Presented in our <br />report were a summary of the geotechnical soil/rock parameters at each boring <br />location for use in the foundation design of the proposed mast arm structures and <br />pier protection barrier walls foundations. <br />Alejandro Montenegro PE <br />Marine Geotechnical Services | GCES Engineering Services, LLC <br />Alejandro has over 40 years of professional experience in geotechnical <br />engineering. He has been involved in numerous foundation and soil studies <br />including deep and shallow foundation analysis, foundation settlement, slope <br />stability and roadway studies. Alejandro responsibilities include planning, <br />organizing, directing and coordinating all the administrative and technical <br />activities for GCES Engineering Services, LLC. He has served as Senior <br />Geotechnical Engineer on several Florida Department of Transportation bridge <br />foundation projects that contained driven piles and drilled shafts, roadway, and <br />ITS projects.
