21 <br />City of Sunny Isles Beach | RFQ 26-07-01 <br />Continuing Professional Architectural and Engineering | General Civil Engineer <br />Project Description <br />Atlas R26 (PCTS 16297) Base of Design Technical Memorandum <br />As part of Ross Engineering’s contract with Miami-Dade Water and Sewer <br />Department (MDWASD), Ms. Ross provided a technical memorandum to <br />evaluate 1-square mile within the R26 atlas area to identify undersized water <br />mains via GIS software and recommend improvements to the potable water <br />distribution system for the mains less than 8-inches to meet current codes and <br />design standards. Ms. Ross was the Project Manager for this task. GIS was <br />utilized to identify the pipe characteristics such as aging pipelines, extensive <br />leaks/repairs, undersized pipes, and relocation of existing mains with limited <br />access in alleys or easements. Any existing mains less than 6 inches in residential <br />areas were recommended to be upsized to 8 inches, 12-inch diameters for <br />commercial, industrial, and high-density residential use and half-section lines, <br />and 16 inches for the mains along full-section line roads. A fire flow analysis was <br />also performed to ensure accurate sizing and fire hydrant spacing. Currently, <br />Ms. Ross and staff are working on the next phase of this project to design the <br />upsized water mains identified in the memo. <br />Atlas R26 (PCTS 16297) Design Project <br />Following the BODR, Miami-Dade approved the design for the water main <br />replacement for one-half of the square mile that was evaluated. Ms. Ross is the <br />Project Manager to design over 45,000 linear feet of water main in Atlas R26. <br />This project is currently in the 30% design phase and is utilizing the proposed <br />water main layout identified in the memorandum. The new design has been <br />coordinated with Miami-Dade Water and Sewer’s modeling department. All <br />6-inch mains are abandoned in place and replaced with a new 8-inch DIP wm <br />in the residential areas. In commercial, industrial, and high-density residential <br />areas, the mains are proposed to be replaced with 12-inch water mains. All <br />water meters in easements in the back of the property will be relocated to the <br />front and connected to the new mains, and any section line roads are upsized <br />to 16-inch wm. The undersized mains will also be upsized due to the fire flow <br />deficiency on certain streets to bring them up to code.
