Project Description
Ross Engineering, Inc. was selected through Miami-Dade County’s
EDP contract to provide general civil engineering services for Miami-
Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces. Under the first task
work order, Ross Engineering performed a Sanitary Sewer Evaluation
Survey (SSES) for thirteen parks throughout Miami-Dade County in
accordance with Miami-Dade County DERM’s SSES program.
The purpose of the evaluation was to assist the County in identifying and
correcting excessive infiltration and inflow (I/I) within sanitary sewer
systems serving County park facilities. Ross Engineering performed
site inspections and evaluations at each park, documented existing
sanitary sewer conditions, and identified potential system deficiencies.
Four of the parks contained less than 1,000 linear feet of gravity sewer
and required smoke testing only. The remaining parks required both
smoke testing and flow testing to evaluate the amount of infiltration
and inflow entering the sanitary sewer system. Ross Engineering
used smoke testing equipment to identify visible aboveground
smoke discharge points, which indicated potential defects, leaks, or
improper connections. All identified deficiencies were documented
in the evaluation reports.
Ross Engineering also prepared AutoCAD exhibits of the existing
sanitary sewer systems within each park using aerial photography and
available as-built information. The firm updated the sewer mapping
by identifying new manholes, sewer lines, and system features not
shown on previous record drawings.
Upon completion of the evaluations, Ross Engineering prepared final
reports for submittal to Miami-Dade County for review and approval.
The completed work supported the County’s ongoing efforts to
improve sanitary sewer system performance, reduce infiltration and
inflow, and maintain reliable wastewater infrastructure within public
park facilities.

Our first task work order was to conduct a Sanitary Sewer Evaluation System (SSES) for thirteen parks throughout Miami Dade County as per Miami Dade County DERM's SSES program. This evaluation survey allows the County to locate and correct excessive infiltration and inflow (I/I) into the sewer lines. Ross preformed a site inspection and evaluation for each of the parks. Four of the existing parks only needed to have smoke tests performed because they had less than 1,000 feet of gravity sewer and the remaining Parks required smoke test and flow tests to check the amount of infiltration/inflow in the system. The existing system was evaluated using the smoke machine to see if
there was any smoke visible above ground. All problems were indicated on the reports. The existing sewer
system inside the park was drawn into AutoCad based off an aerial photograph to accurately show the existing
system. The as-builts were updated by identifying new manholes or sewer lines not shown. A final report was
provided to the Park to submit to Miami Dade County for approval. Contract Amount: $200,000
