A six-lane roadway, Doral has heavy levels of traffic, with concerns on safety as well. Statistically over the last five years, a serious injury or fatal crash occurs along Doral Boulevard approximately every 27-28 hours. The heavy level of crashes, combined with a lack of multimodal facilities, led the City to engage in a study to reimagine the future of the corridor as a Complete Streets corridor, addressing safety, needed facilities, and retrofit items. This also includes safety improvements to the intersections.
This project included public outreach to establish the vision of the corridor, which was divided up into three phases. Phase I includes a redesign of the eastern portion in the built-up area of the city, including new bike paths, mixed-paths, and sidewalk improvements, along with considerations of midblock crossings. Phase II and III, when the study is complete, will include context-sensitive Complete Streets approaches to build new connections for transit and multimodal options, including potential mobility hubs.
CLIENT NAMECLIENT NAMECity of Doral
ADDRESSADDRESS8401 NW 53rd Terrace Doral, FL 33166
CONTACT PERSONCONTACT PERSONZafar Ahmed Assistant Planning and Zoning Director
PHONE NUMBERPHONE NUMBER 305.593.6630 Ext. 3018
EMAIL EMAIL zafar.ahmed@cityofdoral.com
PROJECT START DATEPROJECT START DATE 2022
PROJECT COMPLETION DATEPROJECT COMPLETION DATE
Phase I 2023
CONTRACT TYPE CONTRACT TYPE GEC/GPC
PROJECT COST PROJECT COST $200,000
SCOPE OF SERVICESCOPE OF SERVICEGeneral Planning Services
16 DORAL BLVD STREETSCAPE MASTER PLAN, DORAL | CORRIDOR STUDY | www.plusurbia.comDORAL BLVD STREETSCAPE MASTER PLAN, DORAL | CORRIDOR STUDY | www.plusurbia.com
CITY OF DORAL
E 49th Street
NW 87th Avenue
E 50th Street
NW 97th Avenue
E 51st Street
NW 102nd AvenueNW 107th AvenueNW 114th AvenueFlorida Turnpike
E 48th Street
NW 82nd Avnue
E 47th Street
Palmetto ExpresswayNW 79th Avenue
E 49th StreetE 50th StreetE 51st Street E 48th Street E 47th Street
E 49th StreetE 50th StreetE 51st Street E 48th Street E 47th Street
Existing Zoning Section 1
Existing Zoning Section 2
Proposed MP Section
Proposed MP Zoning
Shade trees
Building facade setback
for seating area and/or
landscapingSeparation between people
walking and biking
Extension of City Center
(Commercial and Mixed-Use)
Palmetto Gateway
(Hotels and Warehouses)
39DORAL BLVD STREETSCAPE MASTER PLAN, DORAL | CORRIDOR STUDY | www.plusurbia.com
DORAL BOULEVARD CORRIDOR STUDY
