Major efforts focus on the North Corridor, a 13-mile stretch along NW 27th Avenue designed to connect low-income communities to regional job centers and education hubs via premium transit. To support these investments, the TPO uses advanced STOPS modeling for ridership forecasts through 2045 and integrates transit-supportive land-use strategies, including Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) and First-Mile/Last-Mile (FLM) planning. Comprehensive regional updates also include the 2023 Downtown Miami Transportation Master Plan, which used digital mapping and public outreach to identify infrastructure concerns.
Beyond rapid transit, the TPO prioritizes multimodal safety and research on emerging technologies. The Vision Zero program uses a data-driven “5 Es” strategy—Engineering, Enforcement, Education, Encouragement, and Evaluation—to eliminate traffic fatalities and serious injuries. Safety is further addressed through the Safe Routes to School initiative, which conducts expedited on-site reconnaissance to improve neighborhood road conditions for students. For non-motorized travel, the TPO conducted a Pedestrian & Bicycle Data Collection program at more than 75 locations to monitor trends and prioritize investments. Additionally, the Future Technology Study assessed the potential impact of autonomous vehicles, high-speed trains, and the Internet of Things (IoT) on the region’s long-range transportation network.
CLIENT NAME CLIENT NAME
Miami-Dade County TPO
ADDRESS ADDRESS
111 NW 1st Street, Suite 920, Miami FL 33128
CONTACT PERSON CONTACT PERSON
Maria Teresita Vilches-Landa, PE Deputy Director - Transportation
PHONE NUMBER: PHONE NUMBER: 305.375.4507
EMAIL: EMAIL: Maria.Vilches@mdtpo.org
PROJECT START DATE:PROJECT START DATE: 2018
PROJECT COMPLETION DATE: PROJECT COMPLETION DATE:
2021
CONTRACT TYPE: CONTRACT TYPE: Task Work Order
PROJECT COST: PROJECT COST: > $3M
KEY STAFF: KEY STAFF: Joseph M.
